Did anyone get a chance to watch Brock play in this game on Staturday? How did he do? I couldn't find any updates. Thanks!

The 2014 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl is in the books, and the National Team has, once again, won. The National Team took down the American Team, 31-17, with a strong second-half showing. Since the bowl was established in 2012, the National Team has won every game.
South Carolina's Connor Shaw was considered the biggest name heading into this game. He's projected to be a late-round pick after a very solid season in which he completed 63 percent of his passes with 24 touchdowns against just a single interception. He's been regarded as a solid backup option or developmental quarterback. At the half, Shaw had just two pass attempts for 22 yards, but he got a few more attempts in the second half. In the end, he finished having completed five of six passes for 70 yards with an interception. Overall he looked good, probably good enough to warrant a late-round pick, as previously suspected.

A few of us were posting some updates in his highlight reel thread. I missed the 1st quarter but got a tweet from someone that watched it, so this summary would include what he told me.

It looked like Brock rotated every 2 series with another mike-backer who was from Missouri. That gave Brock a ton of reps, especially since his team (American) couldn't do much on offense, it allowed the defense a lot more time.

Brock, as he was in college, was in on most running plays. He was in the pile, around the ball, making tackles. I was told he probably had 2 tackles in the 1st quarter. From when I watched I saw another 5 or 6, roughly.

The good stuff:

- Had a real nice TFL in the 3rd quarter, ran right through the A-gap, the running back tried to make a cut-back but Brock wrapped up his legs and took him down. The camera pans in on Brock, however the announcers by then were busy blabbering about Johnny Manziel who wasn't even there.

- On many run plays Brock showed an incredibly good burst of speed, hitting the open gap hard and disrupting the play. I believe also in the 3rd he was in on two tackles/stops for minimal gain where he would hesitate out of his stance to see the play develop and sprint in where the lane was being opened up.

- Brock also blew up a screen play, with help from another defender. I think Brock would've been credited the tackle, the other defender cut off his blitz as he saw the screen and forced a wobbly/high pass, Brock cleaned up the mess and stopped the running back for a yard or two - another guy came in as well on the tackle, even though I don't think defensive stats were released I'd bet he'd have been credited for a shared tackle.

- Brock was one of a few guys that would hustle through every play, even if he weren't a part of it. Many players I noticed on defense would slow up when a ball carrier got past them, or stop running if the ball carrier was being wrapped up or forced out of bounds. Brock many times would continue through and get into position as if the play were continuing and he were relied upon for a further upfield tackle. One of the very few defenders that were doing that.

Needed improvement:

- Some issues with lateral speed, getting to the sidelines in time to slow down some run plays that went outside of the tackles. Noticed it twice.

- Had a 2nd sure fire TFL slip through his hands, I think it was the Stanford stud running back Gaffney, Brock leaps and wraps both arms around his mid-section but the back slips out as Brock is falling to the ground.

- I think he was flagged for being downfield too quickly on a punt once (ref flagged #56 but I thought I saw two #56's out there so I'm not 100% sure).

- Tough to blame Brock but on one of National's TD dives (with their giant fullback from LSU) Brock was in position but a guard from their Oline wraps him up, puts his hands on the outside of Brock's shoulder pads (holding I do believe) and spins him around, the fullback crashes into Brock's back two yards into the endzone. On twitter a few people were saying it was an obvious hold, think that was posted on egriz too. Tough to say, obviously my maroon colored glasses thought it was.

There were other players there from the Big Sky. Greg Hardin caught a pass that I saw, TJ Lee III had one nicely defensed pass but was also called for pass interference on another play and I think beat for a TD as well. I read that Brad Daly was there, if he was I didn't hear his name mentioned, but I wasn't looking for him during the game, so who knows.

On the FCS side one of the bigger standouts was a wide receiver from McNeese who had an impressive TD and quite a few catches.

I know all you football experts realize that the actual game is for us fans and the scouts are more interested in th practices and sessions that take place during the week leading up to the game. Can't speak to this particular game but often the scouts have already left by game time since the schemes and the all star nature of the game limit the usefulness of what occurs during the game unlike the one on one drills etc.

I'm happy for the Big Sky players that got invited and think Coyle actually should have gone to the Senior Bowl in lieu of Tripp but the game itself ... Fun for us, waste of time for analyzing what the scouts might think.
