Cotton Granted Another Year by NCAA

Trajon found out he was granted another year by the NCAA. That makes him just a RS-Soohomore. You may recall that Hicks-Onu got an extension too. So both our Oregon St drop down DBs get to be Griz for an extra year. Great news!

You know I don’t like to hype transfers before they step on the field, but I feel this could certainly be true. Very excited at the size and length we have at corner. Can’t wait for fall camp. Might have to come up there and play some golf and catch some practices

Bold Statement Cotton.... all three have a huge chance to be all bigsky players this year. All three have physicality and the awareness to be top of the line BigSky DBs. NAU I think also got a 4 star DB I think. Meanwhile there were a few good DBs in the league already. However looking at this squad.. IF they are healthy ... not sure anyone has a better secondary group in the sky. Nobody should have a better Lb/secondary combined group.

I think they all have very good potential. I was intending to poke a little fun at the hype. The OR St guys can run. Omar had 5th fastest 40 at OR St. .01 from being tied for 3d fastest.

I like our returning soph too. I like our N.C. coach.

Now we just need a season.

Omar Hicks Onu can flat out FLY,, and run some mugs down! From www.gogriz.com site, in High School he was insanely:

Timed in the 40 at 4.38 and the shuttle at 4.28. Hence his among the top Texas DB ranking.
===================================================

Trajon Cotton, in HS,was rated as the No. 3 safety in California, No. 7 in the West and No. 46 nationally by Scout.

======================================================

Justin Ford, had tons of major FBS offers coming out of JC. From SEC , PAC 12, BIG 12, ACC, ect, ect. Aubrun has been known to be a pretty good ream...

The Griz secondary has been upgraded from a Jalopie to a Rolls. :D

I have not heard about 2020 R-SR transfer Omar Hick Onu receiving an extension, where did I miss this?

That's amazing (old) news! :thumb:

So this means he has two football seasons of eligibility? Because he already burned 3 of his 4 years of playing time. I wonder why, specifically, he applied for and was granted another extension?

2019 Played in six games for the Beavers

2018 Did not play due to injury

2017 Played in all 12 games, starting twice, including for the first time of his career against Stanford

2016 Played in all 12 games mostly on special teams

2015 Did not play in a game using his redshirt season

Rethinking this now, are we sure the clock extension wasn't just so Hicks-Onu could play this year?

Looking at his playing history, he redshirted, played in 3 seasons, and had one taken away by injury. That's 5 seasons.

Not sure where he'd be getting another 7th season back in 2021.

Not sure but Kevin Thomson got a 7th year also, and would we have really recruited a kid who we didn’t know if he’d be eligible or not?

Thomson had 2 years cut short by injury, though.

So unless Hicks-Onu had an injury in one of the seasons he played in, I don't see how he'd get another, but I hope I'm wrong.

He could have just straight up asked for 2 and the NCAA said "sure." I believe Tootell and Nuanez had him (Thomson) on their show once and that is what he did - so the same could have happened for Hicks-Onu. Maybe.

I don't claim to know the mysterious ways in which the NCAA operates, so that could very well be true.

The reason I say this is because he's listed on the roster as a redshirt senior, even though Cotton is listed as a redshirt soph, who also just had a clock extension approved. It would be weird for them to have Hicks-Onu on the roster incorrectly when his clock extension happened months ago, while Cotton's is correct and happened last week.

Again, hope I'm wrong on all this, and Hicks-Onu eventually shows up on the roster as a redshirt junior.
