we've all got them, and every a.d. should as well. if i'm jim o'day, i'm solidly in tinkle's camp through next year, when we should begin to see the payoff from his evident ability to recruit. remember, tinkle has snagged some real prizes on the recruiting trail, kids with options at bigger schools.

at the same time, i recognize that two straight years of .500 ball just doesn't cut it at montana in any sport, let alone a men's basketball program with a storied tradition and a fairly recent victory at the big dance, and if i don't see improvement in year three, i have to start looking at my options before the program becomes "holsterized."

here's one.

bring robin selvig over to coach the men. promote shannon to head coach of the lady griz. keep tinkle as top assistant, in charge of recruiting. clean house on the rest of the assistants.

Selvig has said MULTIPLE times he has NO INTEREST in coaching anything other than the Lady Griz. He turned down opps at big time schools, why the hell would he want to make a lateral move? :shocked:

I see Selvig retiring from his current job, not taking over the men's program. The men's job might have made sense several years ago but not now.

Let me start this by saying, "I want to see Tinkle succeed here and stay."

However, circumstances aside, if we need to get a new hc here. I would like to see the following. Here we go.

Anyone with any former GRIZ heading programs now or at a good assistants position for a good program? I thought Old Dominion has an assistant from Montana, Is it Travis Decuire (sp?). That might be a good start.

Someone here mentioned Michael Ray Richardson is one hell of coach. I am for it, and what a great story that would be. :thumb:

I think any of the Gonzaga or WAZZU assistants would be very good fits. I will start with Giacoletti (sp?) and Ray Rice. WSU staff I am not familar with.

I would really like us to think outside of the box some and go for a younger assistant at a basketball school. I think a few of these guys are chomping at the bit to get a chance to be a head man, and this would be a great start for them. God knows they are not going to wait forever where they are at, and someone will convince them at sometime. Why not us on these guys?

I went over many coaching staffs and these were some names that I narrowed it down to. I would like to see others throw out names and comment on any of these. I think someone from an established program will bring winning and attitude that is needed to build a powerhouse within any conference. God Knows the BSC is for the taking. PSU and Montana have the brightest looking futures. As for PSU, I think Bone will be moving on within 2 years.

Lets get this board going similar to how the football board gets names going. :thumb:

Hell football thread does it all the time. To be honest, I like seeing who's name is dropped. I for one am pulling for Tinkle to right this ship. Starting with defeating ISU and winning the BSC tourney this week. :thumb:

First of all, he was cleared of this by none other than many Jewish people. What he said was the truth and when people found out the context of his comments they realized MRR was not "anti semitic", and most people got past it. If you do some research on it you will find out what MRR was guilty of was not speaking the best English which resulted in him not being politically correct. To label him as anti semitic is completley off base. By the way, MRR's second wife was Jewish, as was their daughter.

NBA commissioner David Stern also voiced support for Richardson. While conceding that the remarks about homosexuals were "inappropriate and insensitive" and worthy of a suspension, Stern also said, "I have no doubt that Micheal Ray is not anti-Semitic. I know that he's not...He may have exercised very poor judgment, but that does not reflect Micheal Ray Richardson's feelings about Jews."[6]

Zev Chafets, author of A Match Made in Heaven: American Jews, Christian Zionists and One Man's Exploration of the Weird and Wonderful Judeo-Evangelical Alliance, wrote in the Los Angeles Times that Richardson's comments, while perhaps stereotypical, were not anti-semitic. After discussing Richardson's claim that Jews are "crafty," Chafets stated, What other hurtful things did Richardson supposedly say? That Israel has the best airport security in the world? This is both true and something Israel itself brags about. That Jews are hated and need to protect themselves? That's the founding premise of the Anti-Defamation League itself.... Richardson, who was a popular player in Israel during his NBA exile years, is guilty of nothing more than free speech. Even if his observations were wrong — which they are not — there's nothing at all insulting about them. What is insulting is the notion that you can't speak honestly about Jews without getting into trouble :twocents:
