Confusion about "The U"

I am guessing that anyone who never heard of a university in a one university town referred to as "the U" didn't grow up there.

Born and raised in Montana bub. I just recognize that when most people say "The U", they mean Miami. You must have never left the state to not understand that.

All I got out of this topic is that NFL players should not be allowed to do their own intros anymore. It's a complete joke. Randy Moss says he's from "Rand U", Jared Allen never says "Idaho State". I think he gives his high-school or some other BS that they find funny. The first time someone said "THE Ohio State" it was cool, but now it's just annoying. It was kinda neat the first few years, but now I absolutely dread hearing these clowns make a mockery out of the routine and stroking their egos instead of honoring their alma maters. The few who do it simply with class is the exception anymore.

Jared Allen usually says his school is "Culinary Institute"

and I believe he has given quite a bit back to ISU
