Competition...

Looking back on the year and who the Griz played...was actually impressive. Multiple NIT teams, multiple NCAA teams.

Colorado St.
Boise
San Francisco
Davidson
NDSU
Cal
Texas A&M
including EWU as NCAA team

I would think this kind of competition will only make these guys better and I hope that TD and Haslam continue to keep the OOC schedule demanding!

Next year the competition gets even tougher for the men. Games are scheduled with Kansas, Gonzaga, and Washington. I think there are good chances to playing other WCC and MWC teams as well. I would not mind seeing the GRIZ add in a Creighton, Butler, and/or UNI as well.

The GRIZ could likely get a home and home with Butler and UNI.

Really?! Kansas, Gonzaga and Washington...that is amazing! Let's hope this is a trend that never goes away!

It has been posted a few times. I think it was Bob Messerol who tweeted we were playing those teams next season. Travis is very competitive and accepts challenges well. He knows damn well the only way the GRIZ or any BSC team gets respect is by taking on as tough of a schedule as possible. To b e honest, with the way the U of M has winter break scheduled, it makes sense to play as many tough road games as possible. It is hard to get good attendance in November and December at Dahlberg. The better competition will allow more recruits and possible transfers see the kind of program Montana has. Who knows, it could land us another Martin Breunig type of player down the road.

Isn't that how Gonzaga really started building? They started playing anyone, anywhere? That brought in better players and they started winning a few of those?

They took on that attitude shortly after Few became coach. Long Beach State also has that philosophy. It has not worked quite as well for them yet. I feel it makes sense for any small to mid major to take that kind of philosophy. Fortunately, the Gonzaga fans supported this philosophy rather well. Montana's basketball program is hurt by the success of the football program. This is much easier adapted for basketball only schools.
