Hey guys, I recently started a college football blog that combines fooball stories from all over D-1. Tonight I did a blog post on Bowl games vs. Playoff games. I figured with Montana's playoff history you guys might be able to provide some good insight on this topic.

Thanks for the feedback! Since I've had that experience at Washington-Grizzly Stadium I've been MUCH more interested in the FCS and, to be honest, I was one who found it awesome that Montana declined the WAC (so far at least). What I see happening around the FCS is a large number of schools that can stabilize the FCS, and to an extend make it profitable. Montana is one of those schools.

But, its all for nothing if those schools move up to the FBS. I'm a little worried about the situation with App State right now with rumors with the Sun Belt. FCS needs all the teams they can get that can pack 20K+ fans in the stands.
 
Great site and good stuff. The stadium at James Madison is pretty impressive. But with the lopsided configuration of the stands how loud can it be?
 
Interesting site.

You are correct to worry about app state and many of the other eastern schools that have 20k plus in attendance for playoff games leaving though. 1000-2000 people come to most playoff games that dont include Montana, app state, deleware and a few others. The entire CAA may move up, its even been commented on by our AD last year during the tussle over us going to the WAC.

Ticket revenue and non existant tv revenue from a couple thousand fans will NOT fund a Playoff game (Richmond comes to mind with their NC and 2000 fans that attended each game). With the inclusion of even more schools in playoffs the expenses are getting even larger.

The only way I see FCS playoffs surviving in the future is for each FCS team to pony up a playoff fee every season regardless of their win/loss record. Not many schools are going to be too excited for a $50,000 or so fee every year when they never even sniff the playoffs. This means the playoffs will be gone soon for FCS, rendering your entire efforts futile.
 
Isn't the basketball tournament about the only championship event that makes money ? Will the NCAA get rid of DII and DIII football playoffs ?

I agree 100%. I mentioned it earlier, either in that last blog post or one last week (After a while they all kinda get jumbled in my mind) that combining the FBS and FCS into one Division 1 league would allow for a profitable postseason. 32 game playoff running from December 12th-January 10th. All FBS conferences would receive auto-bids, FCS leagues, CAA, Big Sky, MVFC, SoCon, Big South, Southland would receive autobids as well. the At-large slots would go BCS non-conference winners. Just like basketball. What happens to the other 270+ D-1 teams that don't make the NCAA tourney? Hahaha... NIT, or CIT.

Of course, this doesn't happen because the postseason would be much less profitable for the BCS conferences. The NCAA really needs to step in and intervene.

Ya we are pretty much on the same page about the future of FCS

Your sites cool though keep up the good work. Could make some changes to it as the college landscape changes in the near future. :)

Thanks! Yah, I'm already starting to think about some changes. For instance, the blog has been extremely well received by FCS fans, lots of Bison fans, Griz fans, Rabbit fans, and App State fans. Those fanbases have been very receptive and helpful with giving feedback.

I have not at all been able to get any FBS fans to the site and offer feedback. In fact, I got banned from U of Washington's fan site for giving props to their QB Keith Price. I talked about how awesome he looked in the Alamo Bowl, then referenced my blog. They called it spam and banned me. Maybe they see that alot so its just an auto-response. I don't know.

Anyway, what I envision this blog becoming is a comprehensive FCS blog. I need some help reaching out to some other fan bases, maybe you guys could help me with Big Sky stuff? I'm also planning on having guest blogging soon. This will help put out quality posts about teams I don't know much about. For example, If one of you would like to put out a quality well thought out preview of the 2012 Montana Team; It would certainly be better quality than something I would have to research for hours and write about.

Im also having trouble registering at AnyGivenSaturday. I can't get a confirmation email.
