College Coaches

I am not a big Kentucky Basketball fan. I am watching UK All Access on ESPN. I love the way John Calipari coaches. A lot of people don't like him, but the man can flat out coach anyone he recruits, and comes play for him.

As I am watching it, I realize how lucky the GRIZ are to have Wayne Tinkle here. Tinkle has a lot of Calipari in how he relates to, and gets the most out of his talent. Not saying he will be another Calipari, but am sure he has become a great coach. :thumb:

I hate/dislike that man more than any one ever affilated with sports that i can think of. To put him and Tinks in the same breath... ouch.

I am not talking about their principles, morals, etc. I am talking about how good of teachers, develop players, and effectively communicate with their players.

You might think Tinks has similar coaching qualities, but please do not compare them on characteristic level. Calipari is ruining college basketball by playing with the "1 and done" motto. It is just a matter of time before Kentucky is on probation like every other program he has been a part of. Read this article.

Once again, I just said they are both good teachers, develop talent well, and communicate with their players well.

I agree that Calipari is an excellent teacher and coach. The results and record are there, but the means, is quite another thing. Tinks is no Calipari, and Calipari is no Wooden....Lots of great bball coaches...lots of good teaching; far more than in football and I think it is because of the closeness of 18 kids and the coaching staff as opposed to a hundred or thereabouts on a football team.. Basketball takes more brains and kids are still learning...

i don;t care for the guy either but you can't seriously blame him for the 1 and done motto. first of all...it's been happening for a lot longer than calipari has been at kentucky. second, do you really think for a minute that he like these studs leaving after one season?! of course not. no coach does. but how do you convince a freshman in college who will be a lottery pick and instant millionaire to stay in school?

bottom line, there are a lot of things you can not like calipari for. i just don't see how this is one of them.

I have to say that Calipari has grown on me too. The all-access show grizrule mentioned was great. He is the perfect guy for this time at a program like Kentucky.

Bobby Knight being the biggest critic of Cal is laughable. That guy shouldn't be viewed as a morale authority on anything. Knight was a great coach, but c'mon man!
