I think the Big Sky is over rated yet again. Montana has no offense to speak of and MSU and EWU have terrible defenses. Would be a tall task for any of these teams to make a deep playoff run.
Montana has no offense to speak of yet! I think they're still learning and will improve as the schedule goes on. MSU and EWU will always suck at defense.
Not sure I agree with your comments about the EWU D. Through the first 4 games, it obviously looks bad, but you have to consider who they've played. And although they had a poor showing in the first half on the road against Sac St, they regrouped and pitched a shutout in the second, holding Sac to only 16 yards rushing. When you look at the remainder of EWU's schedule, the defense will almost certainly look better from a statistical standpoint, as we won't really face many opponents that have great offenses like an Oregon or an MSU.
Reasons for optimism...almost all Freshman and Sophomores starting. They will get better with experience. I also love the size of our interior defensive line, which has 4 guys that are 6'4 290 or bigger.
Agreed with the comments about the Big Sky at this point. Nobody is really sticking out as a team that looks like it could get a deep playoff run, and the conference is a bit of a shit show right now in terms of W/L records.
It will be interesting to see how things play out. With two losses each, both EWU and UM will need to run the table in the Big Sky to get a good seed...MSU can afford one loss, but if EWU runs the table MSU risks getting a lower seed due to the HTH. Also interested in seeing if Portland State can keep rolling. Should be an interesting next several weeks.
