Coaching Salary

I am wondering what the Grizzlies can pay for a Head Coach. I know most successful FBS programs pay their coaches more than the presidents of those institutions and wonder why we can't offer a Head Coach a base salary of $280K or more. Also how much can the TV package go for, can it be higher than $40k? The Grizzlies are arguably the highest profile FCS team in the nation and should have a Head Coach that is equally as high profile!

Can't remember what MD is getting but Pflugrad was getting $157K. With media and a deep playoff run, it could go up to the $250k mark but certainly not over that. The salaries here are not keeping pace with other premiere FCS programs. Check out Craig Bohl's contract with the Bison:

Contract base salary: $196,668 (also guaranteed $75,000 with media fee, speaking and camp)

Bohl’s incentives:
National title: $15,000
Conference title: $10,000
National runner-up: $10,000
Playoff host: $5,000 each (3 games)
3% ticket sales: $42,100

There are other threads on this subject as well.

You sure on that $157k cody45051? I thought the base was much lower, like $115,000 or so.

Edit: nevermind, you're right I found that searching on Google. It is $157,000

I like the idea of a percentage of ticket sales going to coaching salaries. I hear oil drilling activity is picking up in north central Montana. Maybe some day we will be able to match the resources that NDSU can bring to it's program. I think that is where UM needs to be, if they can overcome the political climate.

I think it would be interesting to see how Mike Leach is received in the eastern Washington area, where the previous HC was paid in the mid $600k range. It is rural and agricultural, and even though the HC's salary is coming from a share of the Fox television contract with the PAC-12, it is still meaningful to see if an HC making $2.25 mil in that area will be accepted.

Highest profile FCS in the nation??!! Most notorious, maybe... Not even the highest profile in the BSC. See MSU and EWU...

I know people who are into FCS or BSC may feel EWU or MSU have a higher profile at this time, but when I travel the country the only programs most people recognize are App State and the Griz! Now we do get the benefit of people confusing MSU with UM but still all those playoffs as well as the historic Griz-App State playoff game still make us high profile!

Do you really think Leach gives a damn about whether he is "accepted?" As long as those checks don't bounce....

This year. Short-sighted much?

As long as our President, and the game day staff in general, view the football program as a "host", they will parasite enough away that there won't be enough left to significantly improve facilities or coach's salaries. Its an Obamanation I tell you!

It's not what Mike Leach cares about it, it is about the perception of his salary in the area. I was speaking of the political climate which is all about perception. I assume there won't be the revenue from a fat network contract, no disrespect for Root Sports, so that leaves it up to the political climate to carry the day, and I don't think Montana is quite up in NDSU's league yet.

The base salary was about $157k and then there were all kinds of incentives, including bonuses for grades and graduation, as well as keeping the team out of the courts. There were certainly incentives in place to produce the leadership Royce Engstrom wants.

I guess I'm not real sure what that is, since he considers MD having done an "incredible" job. Just sayin'.

I don't care what MD's salary is or the job he did, I think it should be reduced by at least $500.00 to cover the nepotism partial scholly. I feel bad for the kid, because there is no going to be a huge target on him from guys that had to actually walk on and earn a scholarship, partial or not.
