Coaching movement

Eastern fan coming in peace.

I think Sanders, and the other coaches are being held back by Best.

1) Best likes to micromanage and has to stick his nose in everything and is kind of fostering a toxic environment. The only coaches that last are the kiss asses, others tend to leave early and even take lesser positions or lateral moves.

2) Best's EKG recruiting philosophy focuses on players who do well academically more than athletically, which probably kneecaps recruiting. And a lot of Best players just aren't that tough. Literally 4 years after Baldwin left his players and coaches started leaving Eastern went from 10 wins to 3.

3) Best makes really dumb decisions. You guys learned first hand how good Jake Schakel was at QB. The offense looked entirely different with him at QB. He was behind two running QBs that sucked at throwing because Best favors seniority over ability. Also, the OC he hired last season had ZERO play calling experience. He didn't even play football in college, he was the video coordinator. He is also the QBs coach despite having never played the position.

I'm getting this from former players I've worked with, some of whom were recruited by Baldwin but played under Best.

I think those Eastern coaches coming to Montana were just probably tired of seeing a team be mismanaged and probably know Best maybe has two years left. Maybe one depending on his buyout clause.

I don't know if Sanders is going to work out for you guys or not but I'd figure I'd just throw that out there.

Thx. That was informative.

Last year I was on Maui and an Eastern fan saw my Griz shirt and we got to talking. I asked him if Eastern was gonna turn it around at all. He said likely not until Best leaves. Said he was good friends with one the former DC’s under Best and said he was leaving because of Best. Said he’s an asshole and very controlling. Makes it almost impossible for him to do his job. The sooner you guys are able to get rid of him, the better off you’ll be!

I'm guessing it was Eti Ena? Losing him sucked cause he had the Samoan/pacific islander defensive lineman hook up. Best also fired two defensive coaches when he took over cause they wouldn't put up with his shit.

I'm resigned to sucking until we can get rid of Best. The dude has been with the program since he played so its so hard to get rid of him.

How come the griz had the worst pass D in the conference last year if the 3-3-5 is so good against the pass? How come they were 2nd in conference against the run if the 3-3-5 is so bad against the run?
The 3-3-5 as created by Rocky Long and Gary Patterson at New Mexico, was literally created to stop the run. Go ahead and look it up. They couldn’t recruit guys up front that were needed to stop the run in traditional defensive fronts so they got creative and had speed coming from everywhere creating chaos. This shit is written down if you want to do any research

I think you missed the point I was trying to make. I didn't ask the question because I didn't know the answer. I asked it to make people on here acknowledge that it is an effective defense against the run. I know very well where the 3-3-5 came from and the reasons for it.

And do you also know that, despite being last in giving up passing yardage, UM was actually pretty good in pass defense (with some huge exceptions) and had very good stats in many pass D areas.
