Coaches Poll

Long time fan; first post.

It is gratifying to see how the Griz are highly regarded by both the media and coaches polls... quite an improvement over the immediate past.

One thing bugs me about our schedule: I recall much board input about the quality of our opponents. In this vein, I can't understand why we are playing MT Tech and MSU Northern instead of Carroll. I've watched Carroll over recent years and they are pretty damn good! Tech hasn't beaten them for years, and MSU N lost to them by something like 45 points in the tournament last spring.

And, they've got good Missoula players (little Haskett and Henckel). Wouldn't it be more fun to have them coming to Adams Center?

Welcome aboard Grizcal. Many here also do not like or question the schedule regarding these schools. In a nutshell, much of this is state politics with all the schools. I am not sure of all the details, but scheduling these schools is being encouraged by political figures or the board of regents. Sorry I do not know who is mainly responsible for this. I am not one to follow the political side of athletics. Too bad, politics and athletics have to intermingle at every level. I know there are some egrizzers that will answer this much better than myself.
I am hoping the Griz win our bracketbuster game, and show well in the Old Spice Classic that will in a sense make up for scheduling these teams. Either way I have never been this excited for GRIZ hoops!!!!!!!!!!! BTW, check out posts on the scrimmage, very encouraging. GO GRIZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the board. Griz should do quite well this year with the talent and depth on this team.

As for scheduling, I just wish they would leave all non-division 1 teams off the schedule. Sure they may allow some of the players that do not get to play often to get some minutes but I still do not care for them, unless they are used as an exhibition game like the Rocky Mountain game.

You obviously mean WIN the old spice classic, crack the top 25, and officially arrive amongst the next to join Gonzaga as top mid-major! :thumb:

I think mtgrizrule is correct. The other schools are part of the state system, so I am sure that their ADs and coaches lobby to play the big boys, MSU and UM. Carroll is a private school, and does not have the advantage of politics.

I think you will see fewer of these games scheduled in the future if the program continues to prosper under Tinkle.
