Coach Delaney on Co-offensive Coordinators

Well-known member
I spoke with Grizzly head coach Mick Delaney Friday afternoon about his decision to appoint Scott Gragg and Keyfense Hynson as co-offensive coordinators for the team after Timm Rosenbach left the program several weeks ago. He said Gragg would be in charge of the running game, while Hynson would coordinate the passing game. Gragg would remain the offensive line coach, however, with Hynson probably in charge of the quarterbacks, new coaches for the tight ends and special teams might be appointed. Please listen to the interview below and comment..Peter C KGVO Radio

If you actually listen. Seems like he addressed quite a few of the most common questions that people have been asking!

The only question not answered to my satisfaction, is why the F#$k is this even a remotely good idea????? (co-coordinators) Anyone ever even tried this before, and it's worked out? He says yes, at CSU and they are now in the NFL. Are they still co-coordinators, No. Did it work wonders at CSU? I doubt it. Sigh. Surely someone would be interested in the job. (He took "many many" phone calls) Maybe it's a cost saving idea, save one of those huge coordinator salaries they pay. If a thousand season tickets aren't renewed because of this continuing stupidity that's a wash.

It is refreshing to see that there will be a change in the ST coach, perhaps MD can recruit Monty, would definitely be and improvement. Co OC's is a common arrangement, I wish he could have been more comprehensive on where other that Colorado, in my mind not a very convincing argument.

The argument made by MD instigating that execution of athletes at the bottom of failures of the 5-6- season and not a mention of coaching brain farts not included reflects on his inept qualifications of a head coach, not a bad coach just not a head coach.

With the phone ringing off the wall for the OC job, and resorting to the co-OC arrangements, just leads me to think that this could be another brain fart from the leadership of Griz Football.

With the same leadership of Griz Football, and essentially the same athletes returning, it is cloudy future for the 2013 season.

One positive is that only 12 scholarships are available for this staff to squander, perhaps MD can eliminate nepotism and hire his grandson to a coaching position, say ST coach instead of wasting time as a player first.

After all, it appears that the qualification for OC appear pretty low.

This is nothing new to NCAA football. Do you fotget that Pete Carroll's staff at USC had Co-Cordinators during those dynasty years with Sarkisian & Kiffin sharing the responsibilities. University of Arizona currently employs this system. Mack Brown does it at Texas. Houston did it under Sumlin & now they do it at Texas A&M with Johnny Manzel. Halverson at West Virginia does it. Several others practice in recent years have done the same with a great deal of success!

If you said "Co-Offensive Coordinators" You'd be correct...There are some pretty good teams and some pretty credible head coaches on that list employing Co-Offensive Coordinators.

I am not a big Delaney fan, but at this point on egriz he could probably announce tomorrow he was donating his whole salary to charity and posters would find things to criticize and bitch about.

I believe Mick was quoted as saying he had only 9 full schollies, which they will have to be crafty in splitting up. The tight end leaving probably freed up another.

It's twelve (12) scholarships. Expect the in-state guys, with the exception of probably Brekke to get "shares" not full rides.
