Nick Thompson, a 6-foot-9 senior at Clearfield High, verbally committed to play basketball for Weber State University on Wednesday night, The Salt Lake Tribune has learned.
Thompson, a second-team all-stater in 2006-07, had narrowed his choices to Pacific and Weber State before calling WSU head coach Randy Rahe with his decision.
"He was really, really excited," Thompson said. "He was yelling and all that. He was ecstatic."
Thompson also received offers from South Alabama, Wagner, Southern Utah, Pepperdine, Cal Poly, Northern Arizona, Pacific and Portland State.
He visited Pacific a few weeks ago, and took in-home visits from Weber State and Pacific coaches earlier this week.
"I've been leaning toward Weber State, so [after the visit] I did not see any reason to wait any longer," he said. "I wanted to commit before my senior season started so I could put a lot of focus into my last season of high school basketball."
Thompson, part of a military family who moved to Utah prior to his freshman year, averaged 15 points and seven rebounds a game last year.
He said he will sign his letter of intent with Weber State on Nov. 14.
Clearfield coach Curtis Hulse said Thompson is an excellent ball-handler for a big man. "He just continues to improve," Hulse said. "He's got a lot of tools that will help him succeed at the next level."

looks like the old weber-montana rivalry is heating up once again. sit in dahlberg or dee events center and you'd have no idea you were in the pig sty conference. class facilities, both.

Weber by far has one of the best recruiting classes in the Big Sky in some time this year. Not only have they got a commitment from Thompson but they also have a commitment from Denver PG Terrance Dent and are currently leading to land 5 schools to land PG/SG 6-3 Damian Lillard. All three of these guys are at the very upper end of the Big Sky players. Most programs would be extremely happy to land one of these kids any given year.

Now only if MSU could produce some talent instead of hacks like Nic Dissly....

Swill, be careful on knocking MSU in this case. If I recall right a few months back there was word the CATS already have a top 100 recruit from AZ (?) from 09 or 10 class. Someone help me out here, with name and player info. thank you

"There were giants in the land in those days..........."

Weber Third BIG signing

by: Greg Hicks

Damian Lillard, a talented 5-11 senior point guard from Oakland, was scheduled to take a couple more official visits. But he decided instead to verbal to the program that has been on him the longest...

Damian Lillard, 5-11 SR PG Oakland (Calif.) High, told me this afternoon that he has committed to Weber State.

"It was the right fit for me and my family," said Lillard. "They were very sincere in what they were saying and they were the first school recruiting me."

Lillard had a terrific showing in July and numerous West Coast programs got involved after the evaluation period. Lillard had already visited St. Mary's and he was scheduled to visit San Diego and Boise State in the next couple weeks. But after a trip to Weber State, Lillard decided to pull the trigger and end his recruitment.

I have Lillard rated very highly among the West Coast point guards -- he's currently #5 on my list -- and I expect him to have a great career at Weber St. He should be an All conference player for the Wildcats

I sure wish Montana and Utah State could hook up in basketball. I don't see why not in the past few years we have played NAU and Montana State home and home. Why not the Griz? Will Morril not play the Griz since he used to coach them?

The Aggies have a great basketball environment at the DGS Spectrum.
