Clay Christian Tests Positive

"Montana Commissioner of Higher Education Clayton Christian is one of two new presumptive positive cases of the coronavirus, according to information Saturday from the commissioner's office and the governor's office.

The governor's office announced the new cases, both in Missoula County, on Saturday evening, and Christian confirmed late Saturday that he is one of the cases.

“As a public official who interacts with many people on a day-to-day basis, it’s absolutely critical that I share these results and notify those I have come in contact with,” Christian said in a news release.

"It is suspected at this time that Commissioner Christian’s exposure occurred at the Board of Regents meeting in Dillon, Montana on Thursday, March 5," said the release from the commissioner's office."

Wow. It’s starting to get real.

Have you talked to him? How’s he doing?

Interesting times my fellow eGrizers. Some people down play this while others go the extreme. I would like to down play it, but evidence from what we see in Asia and Europe with wide scale closures In trying to contain this virus is certainly chilling. We have already had a few states in the US call up the National Guard to aid. I suspect we see more required business closures for non essentials in those states sooner rather than later. If that approach limits or reduces the spread even more, then I think we will see other states follow enacting the same kind of closures quickly behind. Certainly not something to take lightly because of the tremendous negative financial ramifications it will have on the local, regional, national and global economies. This upcoming week will be very interesting to see what unfolds. Regardless how all of this works out, we will overcome this. Let’s us all remember to have patience, stay strong and to have compassion. Pray to whatever higher power you may believe in that this all can be over soon with a limited toll on life. I look forward to future discussions on how Griz sports will look and be played soon. I look forward to our normalcy.

It’s about to get real for you folks in MT.

Here in Alaska we had a case reported on Tuesday March 10th.

In the past 4 days, the following has occurred.
* University classes all went to online for remainder of semester.
* All school athletics, activities, graduations and proms are canceled until further notice
* Spring break for public school students has been extended for 3 additional weeks and possibly more. Teachers are required to supply supplemental learning for students via online. Work is to be neither graded or collected.
* State and federal employees that have traveled via airlines and recently returned to the state are
advised to stay home for the next 14 days.
* Customer service offices for all utilities companies are closed until further notice.
* Costco and grocery stores are being wiped clean. Besides the TP, sanitizer, and cleaning supply issues, items such as chicken, rice, flour, potatoes, bacon, pasta, and canned goods are getting scarce or are not in stock at all.

I believe that a lot of this stems from hysteria induced by the media, but it gives one an eerie feeling when going to the grocery store. This is what I’m dealing with now and things seem to change by the day and we have fewer confirmed cases than MT.

I hope this shit mellows out before football season!

Excellent post.

I am just hoping I can convince my wife to quit doing things publicly, that is all from me!

Everything closing has more to do with fear of lawsuits, more than fear of CV-19 spreading.

My gf lives in Spain, 46 people in a town of 6000 have it. Everything is shut down, and they cannot be on the streets after 11 pm until 6 am unless work is involved. Only one member of a household can go shoppinp. Can no longer eat out, any food has to be for home delivery

i have more faith in mankind than you, and think it has more to do with protecting vulnerable populations, even if the steps seem over-the-top.

good post OrgonGriz
Stay safe
Wash your damn hands!

First: Stay safe everyone, but don't panic.

Oddly enough, there may be a tiny silver lining in all this. At least some of the measures being called for -- more/better hand-washing, wiping crucial surfaces, and staying home when you're sick -- are things that people should have been doing anyway ... to prevent the spread of colds and flu. My day job was out on the "desert" at one of the Idaho National Lab facilities, and we took buses out. It used to drive me crazy when someone would get on and then hack and cough during the hour-long ride out. Sure, we probably all did that, or something like it, at one time or another because our job tasks "just couldn't wait." But that's what sick leave (for those who have it) is for. Perhaps, at least for awhile after this blows over -- and it will blow over -- people will be more conscious of some of the "best practices" being advocated right now.

I agree. The joke among my wife's friends is that even guys are washing their hands now. Who knew?
