thtwo years ago this month we took on nevada and the heralded nick fazekas in the big dance, where andrew strait and company put montana on the national basketball map for a day or two. late last month, fazekas was waived by the dallas mavs and just signed a ten-day contract with the clippers. ten-day contract means "life support" for an n.b.a. career.

we then ran into boston college, which featured two relatively unheralded kids up front, craig smith and jared dudley, who were beasts underneath and pretty much stifled our big men. today, smith averages 10 points and 5 rebounds for the timberwolves, while dudly had 10 points and 18 rebounds aginst the warriors tonight, after a 17 point-10 rebound game the other night.

the other big kid was sean williams, who now plays for the nets.

anyway, we were all keenly disappointed after losing a game we only trailed by two at the half to a team featuring all these future pros, while two years later we're down by a 25 or so to a big sky team at the half en route to a 50 point home shellacking. does anybody think three kids from portland state will be playing in the n.b.a. anytime soon? a measure of how far this program has fallen in just two short years.

come to think of it, there was another seven-footer on that team who is also playing pro ball, i'll have to refresh my memory on him. anyway, we were all keenly disappointed after losing a game we only trailed by two at the half to a team featuring all these future pros, while two years later we're down by a 25 or so to a big sky team at the half en route to a 50 point home shellacking. does anybody think three kids from portland state will be playing in the n.b.a. anytime soon? a measure of how far this program has fallen in just two short years.

Odds are no PSU player will be in the NBA. However, I like Dominguez at PG. He is tough, distributes, quick, and takes over the game when called upon. There is only 2 BSC pgs since the mid 70's I would take over him as collegiates. Those players are Childs and Richardson. If Dominguez were 6', he could play in the NBA and may just do that.

I don't think the Griz have fallen quite as much as it seems - yeah Saturday's game was bad - embarrassing, a disgrace, whatever you want to call it, I am fine with - and the Griz should have won more close games.

But a complete stroll down 05-06 memory lane reveals a 25 point loss to an Idaho State team that didn't even make the BSC tournament. Not 52 points to the league winner, but still ooph. And for fun read these comments about the Griz then:

Yeah, but going into that game UM was 16-4 with quality wins against Stanford, Drake, Santa Clara, and Loyola Marymount, so we knew that the game was an aberration.

LMAO, beautiful news. Fazekas was a total pretender and a class-less idiot. He, literally, ran off the court after the Griz game as fast as he could without shaking anyone's hand after Strait out-played him in every facet. He was the only Nevada player to bolt. He showed his true colors when the chips were down. I couldn't be happier to see his career end ASAP.
