Soccer Citowicki leaving for Wazzu?

I would trust BDizzle with his info! He has strong sources within the AD and is often in the loop with all things Griz!
AD's won't tell anyone coaches turned jobs down that's not a good look for them. They will say "We had candidiates to campus and they just weren't the right fit."

The AD told me directly that Cavallo turned down the job and they were kinda shocked.
Did he tell you why the Max interview was so bad? He's got solid credentials and I've heard from other families (recruit + player families) that he's a good guy and great coach.

The view from WA:

College athletics have changed. My nearest large university formerly played conference games up and down the west coast. Now league games are mostly east of the Mississippi - including in Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The new NCAA rules now allow player transfers - and in the Griz current soccer situation, it was part of the damage done to the roster - which is important to prospective coaches.

After the season ended in November:
- the Griz will graduate eight players from the roster
- the former coach cut four or five players who have now found new D-I teams
- the former coach took nine good players to WSU - some of whom don't realize they will be bench players at their new school
- in November the former coach introduced nine signees in the 2026 class
- two of the 2026 signees enrolled at WSU in January instead of at Montana
- three more 2026 signees have now announced for WSU

That is a loss of 25 players, 14 of which would have been on the Griz 2026 roster.

How about the four remaining 2026 signees? Hopefully their allegiance is to the University of Montana!

The new coach will have a challenge building a roster, and it needs to be someone who can recruit.

Best of luck to your AD, who I believe wants the best for the young women who will wear Griz colors.

I honestly think the roster is more of a problem than people think. Can you recruit here? 100% you can. But doing in 3-4 months I think is a big turn off to coaches taking their first D1 head coaching job. The transfer portal is uncertain and typical only helps the big school not the mid majors.

There’s currently 13 ladies practicing this spring so roster isn’t to far off from prior springs. The next HC might be coming a little behind the curve but not to bad. Remember the NCAA also instituted new team sizes so even if Chris had stayed he would have had to made cuts to the roster to meet the new requirements.

The issues are pay, contract length and facilities. These are issues that a coach can’t really fix unless his last name is Gates or Bezos.

Here are some of the issues that came about during the inspection of the facilities
1. Gas powered equipment leaking and making the locker room smell of fumes.
2. The medical area can see into the locker room!
3. Exposed wires!
4. Raccoons live under the stands and usually live under the tarp that is used to transport injured players.

Speaking of medical issues the new team doc is a quack! Wouldn’t trust that man to work on a teddy bear. When one of the girls broke a bone this season during a game, he cleared her!

BDizzle since you have the ear of the AD show him this post and either he needs to fix the issues above or just step down and move to Utah (read he’s been wanting to go there).

Also it’s Tuesday and we’re supposed to have a candidate on campus Thursday yet Jean still hasn’t told the committee who it’ll be…

One last gripe, the situation with the bubble is ridiculous, football treats it like their personal fiefdom and reserve it all day when it’s not necessary, forcing soccer into a small window cutting practice time in half. So once the ladies get done with conditioning they don’t have much time for anything else before they have to leave and get ready for class.

If we don't find a coach soon I bet we lose a few more to the portal. Really need to find someone quick

Once Kyle Hansen and 406 sports gets a copy of this, via twitter he will have some explaining to do.

This is interesting, there are two different things being said and only one is true about Weber being offered/not offered the job. We will find out the truth eventually maybe Weber can join the Griz Fan Pod cast but if AD is telling a fib to save face because they couldn't agree on a contract or facility fixes, it could be career ending for AD.

If he wasn't offered now is the time to offer, his record and recruiting at BSU is well know and probably has a list of players already that would come over.

I think no matter who they eventually hire, we need to get behind them 100%. We have great community support for all our programs and we need to root for the new hire.

We don't want someone who turned us down, we want someone who wants to be here!
If the offer wasn't up to par...can you blame them? You need to think about it from both perspectives.

I’m not going to get into specifics of what I was told on why he wasn’t offered. But I was told he wasn’t offered. Seems like somebody stated some reasons earlier in this thread. And Cavallo was offered but turned it down for the reason I stated. And the newest guy withdrew stating his wife decided she didn’t wanna move. Again that is what I was told. Doesn’t mean there weren’t more issues behind the scenes.

Haslam was adamant they are offering 3-5 year contracts and the pay is close to the top for the Big Sky. He said not one coach at UM has a 1 year contract.

Thanks for the info, there are many good D2 HC and D1 assistant coaches that are in Montana's recruiting geography (CO/WA/ID/OR that could of been brough in already that have ties to local club coaches and recruiting directors that recruit ECNL instead of someone from Kansas. What's the next step for Haslam if the next candidate turns the job down his week.

AHCs don’t typically bring players with them. He isn’t going to burn bridges and relationships with Boise.

That is pretty much spot on. I would second the team doc. Team has been rattled with injuries. Teams don’t have 8 girls go down with ACLs. The girls would be dumb to trust them.

Not his players, girls in the transfer portal and 2026's who have been affected by the roster limits.
