cats vs nau

Excellent game by both teams tonight. cats lead from the start but nau just wouldn’t go away. I think the closest nau got was 6 but they played hard till the very end. Hats off to both teams.
Which brings me to this, my interruption of player personnel and game plan etc. I hate to admit it but we, the Griz just don’t have/recruit the same gritty, in-your-face type of players that were on display tonight. I love Travis, I love him to death. I’ve gotten to know him pretty well over these past nine years and there is no better person who’s integrity, commitment to the U, and caring for his team than Travis. I’m not advocating firing Travis. But I have to question the value his assistants bring to the table in recruiting and player development? We just need a couple of junkyard dogs with an attitude.
As far as game planning and execution goes we seem to run the same sets time and time again. Watching The cats tonight they were always in motion, never standing around waiting for a set play to be run. After last nights double overtime win I thought they’d be struggling but from the tip off they ran and ran and ran some more. Very impressive.
Anyway unless there’s a shakeup in the ranks I don’t see us anymore than a mid conference team. We use to be so good.

Don't be too discouraged. Sprinkle is about to get an offer he can't refuse. His name was hot last March for some openings, but this year I think it's almost a foregone conclusion that he's going to get a promotion to a P5 program or one of the powerful mid major programs that can pay more than what coaches make in the BSC. Once he's gone, the Cats will likely take a step back.

The Cats have one huge edge over the Griz right now: Chris Haslam. He recruited three key players in last night's win, Belo, Osobar and Fuller, and before that, I believe he brought in Harold Frey.

Not only that, his recruits are big burly piano movers, of the type that are a rarity in the Big Sky Conference. When you have two good ones like Belo and Osobar, you can pretty much play bully ball, as the Cats did during the entire playoffs. Toss in a RaeQuan Battle, a definite NBA prospect, together with some super-quick guards, and you've put together a helluva team.

I'll be anxious to see how the Cats fare at the Big Dance. I don't think Belo and Osobar will have the impact they had in the Big Sky tournament because Power Five teams are loaded with guys like that. But Battle could wind up making a big name for himself, and that Bobcat defense should keep them in games. I'd love to see a Big Sky team win a first-round game.

I would be happy to see Sprinkle move up but not for the obvious reasons. He is a quality coach and a real class act.
But the Griz still need to compete with the rest of the conference and right now we’re not doing very well. I don’t have a crystal ball but what I see is the Griz staying stagnant while the other teams move past us.
Trying not to be pessimistic but I see the talent level in the BSC moving in the right direction except for the Griz. I hope I’m wrong.

You are correct, that is an honest, unbiased look at it. PR predicting that the Griz will overtake the Cats next year is just wishful thinking.
