Once these kids sign, how can they just bail with no repurcussions? I wouldn’t think he was a walk on:

Yeah he was a scholarship kid and signed a binding LOI. I'm assuming Choate had to allow him out of the contract? I don't really know if new rules allows these transitions to happen easier as well. Good luck to him.

Man, I’m all for kids following their dreams but there sure isn’t much loyalty on any side anymore. Why have a signing day or LOI if you can just bail without a second thought. I find that part annoying. I guess it goes both ways sometimes as the Cats yanked that one offer to Coles recruit.

Appointments to the Air Force Academy don't happen until after the first of the year, usually beginning of February from what I understand. I would bet the kid made an agreement with MSU that if he received the appointment that they would let him out of his letter of intent.

These kids usually go to Air Force Prep to begin with as well so the whole being penalized by a year of sitting out might not even apply to him if they make him go to the Prep school first.

Not usually. Just for those that are academicly week. And they don't get financial scholarship for football so no financial aid.

You must be "academicly week." All students that get in pay zero so there is no need for financial aid so I do not understand your comment whether it is their prep school or the academy. Air Force Academy always over sign and stashes a good portion of their incoming football players at the the prep school because the Air Force Academy is one of the tougher schools in the country to get into. Average student in the academy scored a 33 on the ACT.

I believe that the service academies and the Ivy league schools do not participate in the letter of intent program, so he is allowed to enroll with any of them if he changes his mind.

A player that signs a letter of intent but hasnt started classes only needs a release form the 1st school. If they start classes they would be ineligible the following season. It’s a moot point because the ineligible year would in most cases be a red shirt year anyway.

This.

This is also why that 5-star WR that signed at USC can't immediately go to Texas since he already started classes.

I was looking forward to watching the Metcalf kid this year. Don't mean to derail the thread, but I've noticed many get off topic by the third post anyway...

Bozeman or some defenceless town in the Middle East, it's a tough call.

I'm hereby forgiving the Canadian spelling to applaud you. That's funny on many levels.

I just want to thank you, seriously, for not titling the thread Cats Loose a recruit. That's 1 of 2 grammar screw ups that just kills me.
