Carl Everett

So now Carl Everett is PO'd because his role is going to be reduced. Dude, you're like hitting a buck thirty one from the right side. And wasn't he supposed to add spark to this team? If so, I haven't seen it. What I've seen is a lot of really slow jogs to first after weak groundouts. I haven't seen any effort out of him all year. I'm done with him and his lack of production (.232, 30 RBI, and a .373 slugging %).

So here's my solution: Go pry Torri Hunter away from the Twins. They won't be able to afford to re-sign him, and he's had a down (for him) first half. With Reed out, the Ms need a center fielder. Let Choo and Perez share the DH duties. If that doesn't work, then you make another deal at the deadline to pick up a bat to DH.

Nah have Snelling come up and DH before he gets hurt again. Cut Carl loose, he's nothing but a cancer, he's got a bad reputation for things like this.

wGF Carl Everett had more recently been on the White Sox for a few years, he likes to "pop off" about things, I think he called Peter Gammonns a dumba$$ or something like that last year. Think he DH'd there as well, might've played a little bit of outfield.

What ReMax said. Snelling is a better hitter than Crazy Carl. Choo and Bloomquist can hold down CF for a while, although Choo doesn't exactly look good out there.

The M's are limping into the break and are facing a brutal schedule for the rest of July. I'm betting that the team will be buried by the end of the month. Then, they will be looking at dumping veterans and getting PT for the young players.

BTW - how bad is the NL, that the Mariners can cut through them like swather through dry grass?

I thought about Snelling as the DH also. But I think the organization wants him playing everyday because I don't think they project him long-term as a DH. Besides, if you do that, then you've got TWO guys sitting on your bench (Petagine and Perez) that will bat once a month and never play defense. I sorta liked the idea of keeping Petagine at the start of the year, but c'mon.

I breifly understood the Perez trade, but if the Ms sink back into their usual spot now, that trade was a complete waste.

But now Eddie G is gone, yayy!!!! I know a bunch of Ms fans liked Eddie, but I never really thought much of him. Could be that Sasaki before him was a great closer when healthy, but Eddie did not impress me.

Now another roster spot opens up, I suppose they'll call up a AAA pitcher to fill in, hopefully someone who could take Piniero's starting spot in the roster within the next 30 days.

Im in total agreement.

"the talk" that I've mainly read has been about a few guys

Ceasar Jimenez - 5-5 / 3.55 era / 48 Ks / 1.37 WHIP

Fansisco Cruceta - 7-4 / 3.77 era / 108 Ks / 1.39 WHIP

Although both of these guys give up a few too many walks, and Cruceta has given up 9 homers in 16 starts.

Someone else mentioned aslo;

Mark Lowe (AA San Antonio) - 0-2 / 2.16 era / 14Ks / 1.02 WHIP

But its all rumor & talk, guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Well, Petagine has been dfa'd and some scrub catcher called up for one game while Joh jets back to Japan to name his new baby boy.

Rumor is that the scrub catcher will be sent back down after the ASB and either Jones or Snelling called up, perhaps both. I can't believe that Jones is ready, considering that last year at this time he was playing short stop in A ball but I guess the organization knows him better than we do.

This paves the way for Everett to be dfa'd very, very soon. If Snelling gets the call, it will be to DH pretty much full time and that would send Surly Carl to the Petagine bench-warmer spot. Id on't know if this team will win more games, but they will be much more entertaining.

1B: Sexson
2B: Lopez
SS: YuBet
3B: Beltre
C : Joh
LF: Ibanez
RF: Ichiro!
CF: Jones
DH: Snelling

They could give Snelling a start or two per week in LF to spell Ibanez, who could probably use some DH time to save his legs.

Bench:
C : Rivera
OF reserve: Choo
INF reserve: Willy Ballgame
Benchwarmer: Whoever - doesn't really matter since Hargrove won't play him. Morse is injured, so Dobbs is the most likely guy I guess.

Then they HAVE to dump Piniero. I don't really care who takes the #5 spot in the rotation, but I do like Cruceta's stuff the best. According to Churchill, he's got the best stuff in the system outside of Felix. He walks guys and will groove a fastball once in a while but he'll also strike out a ton of guys. I think that he'll work well with Joh - he throws a nasty, unhittable splitter and as we've seen with Putz, Joh knows how to use that particular weapon.

That would leave us with a rotation of:

RH: Meche
LH: Moyer
RH: Felix
LH: Washedupburn
RH: Cruceta

And a bullpen of:

Fruto
Woods/Green
Mateo
Lowe
Sherril
Soriano
Putz

That's actually not a bad team. Hargrove's idiotic managing makes it worse than it should be, of course, but you've got a lot of youth in there. That core group of young guys could be the ones that win the first penant in Mariner history. It won't happen this year but I don't nind seeing those guys gaining experience now.
