I don't know. The Butlers, Creightons and Wichita States of this world have done pretty well in past tournaments with half-court/slow it down styles. Bottom line is that as long as Tinkle is the coach, you won't be seing us run a high-tempo game. I do think that grabbing a JC or 2 is not a bad idea. We've had some success with JCs in the past and JC players are more receptive to going to a mid-major program where they can contribute immediatly. I would like to see us find some athletes that will go down low and rebound the ball and pick up some junk points ala Qvale, Strait, Davis... It makes a difference when most of your offense comes from the perimiter.
Outside of Butler ONE YEAR, how many times have Creighton or Wichita State played in the Sweet 16? And the year Wichita State made it that far, they two two first-round NBA players, on of which led the nation in rebounding.
The Missouri Valley Conference has been the most successful mid-major conference in the tournament the past decade and they are mostly made up of teams that implement half-court offenses. Outside of that conference, Butler, VCU, and George Mason have had the most success. VCU and George Mason have the up-tempo offenses you are referring to but Butler has one of the slowest paced offenses in the country and they have played in 2 of the last 3 national championships (more than ONE Year) and were a buzzer beater away from beating Duke to win it all a couple years ago. St. Mary's and Gonzaga, 2 other "mid-majors", are also half court style offenses. Both of which have grown into perennial Top 25 programs. Outside of VCU, none of the teams you've mentioned have made it past the 2nd round. Therefore, your argument that we have to change to an up-tempo offense is a very arguable opinion and history doesn’t support it.
