Hadn’t seen this pop up here. I know things have been busy with all the riveting talk about shoota having gone off the rails, supposed butt hurt posters or a state ag player nobody knows or cares about entering the time tunnel.

Congrats to Dante, best wishes & keep doing all the great things you’re doing.

Awesome to see. Congrats to Dante!
I didn’t know about these awards, but I’m glad they exist. Would be awesome to see him win the Campbell.

Also, almost 40 minutes and one response. SMH, I guess nobody wants to talk about Grizzly Football on here anymore. No wonder all the good posters like me left 17 years ago. Credit to me for sticking it out.

Congrats to Dante! What exactly is needed to earn this trophy?

Based on Wiki, it's essentially the "Academic Heisman". Dante would be only the second non-FBS/I-A player to get it. Check this out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_V._Campbell_Trophy

Pretty freaking cool if you ask me.

Very distinguished list to be a part of! Just being nominated has to be a great feeling of accomplishment!

Grades around a 4.0, play on the field, and leadership. There are about 40 semifinalists from the FCS level.

Play on the field is gonna be tough. Last year, if only he had more than 151 tackles, 13.7 tackles/per/game (which led all of FCS and FBS), and 6 sacks, he might've beaten out the EWU guy who won BSC Defensive POY.

Yeah... Seems like the Big sky looks at "play on the field" differently than anyone else in the country... IE.. Jared Allen winning the Buck award, but Ioane winning the Big Sky Defensive award in 2003.

Great job, Dante!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Derek Crittenden was up for this award.

He was & I think he was also in the running for a Rhodes scholarship among other things. It’s an amazing honor & a feather in the cap of the program.

I love how after the Monmouth game, I took my grandsons, (10 and 11) down to the field, and Dante was so gracious and accommodating. He will have two more fans for life, and they have caps with his signature on it.
I know that one of the things the NFL is looking for is character. Dante would be a first round choice based on that alone.

Bill Campbell coached at Columbia when I was at Dartmouth. Met him a couple times after he'd become a very big business guy. Couldn't have been nicer.
