Did anyone just see the LG-NAU game? First, congrats ladies for regrouping in OT and getting a tough win after Patton went off to bring back NAU from double digits.
Now, some will think I'm just whining but how long can the Big Sky accept this type of poor performance from its group of refs? Isn't it part of the conference's job to hold the refs accountable? (To those who think I'm whining I took out who the call would have favored. There is one that would have helped NAU. Anyways, the game still would have been close because Patton was hitting pretty much anything she was throwing up there at the end.)
1. player hits a three and gets fouled...then the refs give the shooting team the basket (acknowledging it was during the shot) plus the ball instead of freethrows. That is not accidently missing the call, that is a lack of knowledge of the rule book.
2. player dribbles down court, stops and puts both hands on the ball to pump fake, and decides to take a dribble to get a better shot. Obvious double dribble but not called (well, at least this one might just be the refs are daydreaming or don't have very good eyesight and not necessary an indication of ignorance of their job. Yay, little victories!).
3. after an inbounds pass, player is shoved to the ground and goes out of bounds. Out of bounds and no foul called because naturally that is an advanced collegiate move to slam into the ground on your own and escape out of bounds.
4. similar to #3, after a rebound tipped out of bounds, the two going for the ball end up on the floor with one laying on top of the other. Possibly an over-the-back call? Nope. They never touched they're just playing physical and getting position down there, right?
There were many others, as well, such as messing up possession on a dead ball outabounds. But those were the ones towards the end that were fresh in my mind. So, anyways, when can we switch out the BS refs for some quality Rotary or elementary refs? At least they know when to award freethrows.
