Brent Pease Fired

Dave is making 2x+ what he would make here. His wife is from Calgary, and has a REALLY good job there (or used to have). His family is firmly based there.

Sorry fans. Dave isn't coming back here, except for ceremonies.
I am fascinated by the people who dream that Dave will come back to Montana. Why in the world would he want the pressure that would come with being the Griz HC?

I guess you can never say never but this is exactly how Dave feels about coaching at Montana according to a very close family member of his. Unless he has a change of heart, I don't think we will see Super Dave coaching the Griz.

Don't know what the head job for the GRIZ pays. Any ideas? OC's in Canada make six figures but probably not much more than $125,000 - $150,000. Head coaches vary quite a bit but usually $200,000 to $300,000. Probably not twice what Delaney would be on but then there is the lack of pressure and his wife being from Calgary. It's a nice idea but you wouldn't want a guy who doesn't want the job.

Dickinson's first contract in 2010 paid him $150K per year, plus the coaching fringe benefits. He just signed another one, which is supposed to be significantly more. One paper called it a head coach salary. I am looking for it, but can't find it yet.

Brent Pease will never be the UM head coach, but it will have NOTHING to do with "Griz fans saying they don't like him". LOL. Sorry folks, but Kent Haslam ain't taking that into account when it's time to hire the next head man.

Super Dave was also elevated to Associate Head Coach along with his OC duties. It's looking more and more like DD is building towards being the next head coach of the Stamps. Hell, as smart as DD is, and as well-respected as he is in the CFL community, I would see him serving as the Stamps' GM someday too. He's not coming back to the Zoo.

Sorry I'm not buying the whole Dickinson would make more money as a CFL HC or OC than being the Griz HC theory. CFL HC salaries are not public recorded, but from what I found are estimated to be in the low six figure salary range. CFL OC are estimated to be in 70k to 110k range. Toronto and Montreal have some of the highest paid coaches in the CFL. Super Dave doesn't work for either of those teams...so I'm pretty confident the UM could match or better any package deal that Calgary could come up with.

I'm also not buying the wife being from Calgary etc. theory either, because that is a typical deflection response that people make about sought after coaches. I have a hard time believing Mrs. Dickinson would have her husband pass up a job offer that would provide their family with possible financial security that is better and a job that could also lead to future jobs... that provide even greater financial security. Most college HC wives don't work, because they don't have to with their husbands making more enough to provide for the family. Plus Dave had a long career along with being a very smart person, so I'm pretty confident his family's financial situation is more than stable and will be for some time.

I found the comments that he wouldn't want the job, because it comes with far more pressure humorous. Sorry, but pro coaching jobs have even less job security than college coaching jobs. One just needs to look at the coaching turnover rate for any CFL or NFL team. Also, Dickinson is a highly competitive person and his athletic accomplishments more than reflect that. So again, I'm pretty confident that the "pressure of being the Griz HC" would not be a reason why he wouldn't want the job.

Obviously he isn't going to come out an say he wants the job or would consider it, because he's a professional/smart guy and wouldn't do anything to place himself in an awkward situation with his current employer.

I and lots of others think he is somebody the UM Athletic Admin should aggressively pursue to be the next Griz HC.

Savage, Actually, DD's wife works and she's happy in her job, according to the NUMEROUS interviews he's done over the years. You are also typing as if a head coaching offer from the University of Montana has already been offered to DD. Which is absurd because one hasn't been extended. DD has also mentioned how much pressure there would be on him if he were to take a position at UM before. He has also said "He wouldn't rule out ever coaching college football, but he's very happy where he's at and enjoys what he does for a living."

I’m not positive it’s the greatest situation for me, because if it didn’t work out I wouldn’t want any negative feelings,” Dickenson said of a potential return.

DD has dabbled with the thought of coming here but I don't think it will be until 2 or 3 years at the earliest, if at all. His wife is a pharmacist and she makes great money and likes it there, so that is a huge factor. Back on the topic, however, I think Pease has matured exponentially and I personally would love to have someone with fire in his belly in charge here again. Someone has to be a badass on the coaching staff to really get kids to push themselves, it doesn't have to be the HC, you just need one guy. We don't have that guy right now. I don't think we can get Brent now financially, but who knows. Money isn't everything.

He really sounds like he wants to take over at Calgary eventually, he said he had some calls checking his interest in the openings at Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Ottawa but said he wasn't interested right now, then signed a 3 year extension at Calgary adding Asst. HC to his OC title. I wouldn't be surprised if Hufnagel moves to GM and DD to coach within that 3 years, I've seen that speculated in articles.

Jod, totally agree, and if Hufnagel wants to keep the big seat for longer, and Bueno decides to retire, i bet a million dollars they would call on DD in B.C. He is beloved there too.

A year ago when Dickenson was getting looks as a head coach for the roughriders, the Stamps gave him a pay raise to keep him around. I seem to remember his salary exceeding $200k, Canadian, which is within pennies of the U.S. dollar's value. He makes much more than the head coach at UM.
I don't know if Dickenson would take a job in BC. He likes being close to Montana and BC doesn't give him that. In his BC playing days, Dickenson's family remained in Calgary.
Hufnagel is nearing retirement. Dickenson would be the logical chose as new assistant head coach/oc to replace huf.
He's got nine years with the Stamps at this point as a player and coach.

Could end up as the OC at UW, now that Sarkisian is headed to USC.

Fairly presumptuous since you have no idea whom the next head coach will be.

I pride myself on my presumptuousness! When i'm over-presumptuos, like now, my hope is that pompous, bombastic, a-holes will point it out. Thanks so much for playing your part.

That was also presumptuous, or presumptuos as you say.
