Brekke and Roderick

Generally, it makes no difference to me where the Montana boys go to play ball. It's their choice. They should go where they want. But for these 2, who committed to UM or looked closely at UM and then went to MSU the way they did, there is some satisfaction knowing that they will be watching the playoffs and UM participate in the playoffs from home. They may have to get used to that too, as I don't see MSU being as good in the coming years, without McGhee and with what I observed this year and see in the future. The MSU program has improved significantly under Ash and McGhee, but it is no where close to being as good of a program as Montana. Not even close. We'll see what impact the loss of schollies will have on UM. It will surely have some. I believe the strength of the program and the closeness of the players have often had in the past and increased in the last 2 years, has a good chance of getting UM consistently on or near the top for future. Having JJ back next year should assure another strong year. Go Griz.

I sure hope one of these young guns (Gustafson, Simis, etc) are ready to step into the void in 2015.

I'm excited about what both of these guys bring to the table. My money is on Simis, but you can't count out a Montana kid.

If they went to msu for school, then they made a good choice and they shouldn't care...but, if they went because they thought the scats were a better program than the Griz, they made a horrible decision and I'm glad they are sitting at home.

Short versions.

Gunnar Brekke was scared off by the NCAA investigations and some of the rumors flying around about potential sanctions. That wasn’t his official reason for reconsidering, but I was told it was the major factor. This also caused some big time aggravation with the UM staff, considering what they believe the MSU staff told Brekke and his parents.

Tanner Roderick wanted a legit chance to play quarterback by the 2014 season, and the JJ situation was up in the air. It was made clear what would happen, pending the outcome of the Johnson trial, and that became a pretty clear cut decision for Roderick.

That's the impression I had as well. My mom taught Gunnar in middle school and it sounds like even back than all he could talk about was playing for the Griz. Oh well, he's a good kid and I wish him the best as a Cat (except against the Griz, of course.)

Roderick is being moved back to QB next year. If he doesn't win the competition with Bleskin, Prukrop and McQueary he will go back to WR. In any event he will be on the field next year. Bleskin is viewed as a pocket passer and Tanner and Prukrop as dual threats. McQueary was really impressive on the scout team this year and the coaches say he is very mature for this point in his development and will be in the competition.

Gunnar Brekke will be a featured back along with S. Johnson. They are very high on Gunnar.

I'm just praying that Ash stays put as HC. I've had a good time this year watching his clownish antics and look forward to many more years of the same. This has been the 'Year of the Buffoon' in Blowzo and I expect it's only going to get funnier as he limps slowly into retirement.

It's not Ash's fault as he had a lot of injuries to deal with.
Listening to Ash for the last seven years and it's been an injury thingy each and every one of them. ;) He says it like we haven't heard him say it before.

It's still on Ash, he's the one either recruiting injury prone players and or not running a conditioning program aimed at alleviating injuries.

Rob Ash is a great man and a great coach. His recruiting is second to none and the sky is the limit for the bobcat football program. The best is yet to come. Sure, he got taken to the woodshed by Mick Delaney last weekend but that was just a hiccup. :?
