UM has moved up to a 14 seed in Joe Lunardi's ESPN Bracketology projections. Accordingly, it would pair the Griz against a 3rd seeded Houston in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. If it holds up when the actual committee makes its selections, it is huge and would give Montana a real shot at winning a first round game.

I read stats the other day, Lunardi is pretty good at figuring out who gets in. But he can't pick the seeds for shit. Having said that, I do like this match up!

Actually, picking who gets in is the easy part. I have my own "formulas" ... which do not worry at all about "good" or "bad" wins or losses, or any that fancy crap. It's largely all about winning lots of game ... and how tough your conference is. Over the last 14 seasons, I have never missed more than two of the at-large bids, have missed by just one in three years, and hit it on the nose once (in 2016). However, I do not even attempt to figure out the seeds.

The NCAA committee makes a big deal about how stressful it all is ... and doing the seeding probably is. But picking who gets bids is really no big deal. If it were, I could not predict over 90% of what they decide with my simple, dumb-ass formulas.

The more #1 seeds lose in the conf tourneys they higher the Griz will climb. We don’t have a real resume for anything higher than 14 anyway. Just hope for a good matchup if we can survive our own tourney

Gonzaga goes down!
St. Mary's clearly wanted to leave no doubt, although, as I said on the other thread, I thought they'd get a bid anyway.

The interesting point will be how badly (or not) it hurts Gonzaga's seed. They might be somewhat saved by their reputation as a long-time Big Dance competitor, but I can also see them getting hammered really hard.

UM's stay as a 14 seed was short lived. Today, Lunardi has the Griz back to a 15 seed. Apparently, he made this decision based on Northern Kentucky's victory over Wright State last night in the Horizon League championship game because Northern Kentucky is now a 14 seed and had not previously been projected to be in the tournament.

NKU is currently ahead of Montana in Net Rating, but not by much. If the Griz win the tourney, they will have the same record.

Then I would imagine who gets 14 and who gets 15 would depend on regional match ups.
