Good morning, all; Davidson fan (and grad) here. We're all very excited about this matchup and the return game next year. For those of you making the trip, I think you'll find Davidson a charming campus and town. Our fans and students are spirited, but well behaved and respectful, so you hopefully won't run into any of the "crazies" you'd see in other parts of North Carolina. My one misgiving about this setup is that the game is on ESPNU, which I do not have, but I'll try to catch it at a bar/restaurant in my current town (DC).

Feel free to visit our board (http://www.davidsoncats.com/index.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) for some good-natured discussion. Hope to see you there!

Welcome to the board, dipolocat! We always enjoy talking some basketball with fans of the opponent! And thanks to the link for your board.

While I wouldn't expect too many Griz fans to make the trek due to lack of time to plan, Davidson fans should mark the rematch on their calendars early and get out to Missoula next year.

Again, welcome. Looking forward to a great game!

I find this an intriguing matchup, as it gives both teams a chance to improve their OOC resumes. Despite wins against Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Richmond, we were unable to pull out wins against Duke, Gonzaga, UNM, and Drexel. Losses to Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Drexel, and conference foe Georgia Southern do not help our case. It's been a bit of a frustrating season; though three wins against opponents in the A-10, SEC, and Big 12, we had higher expectations, coming into this season returning the vast majority of our roster. We're in a very similar situation in that we likely need to win our conference in order to get an NCAA bid.

For some historical context, Davidson is a very small liberal arts college (1,700 undergrads) that has managed to pull together a decade of great teams under our long-time coach Bob McKillop. Davidson has appeared in the NCAA tournament five times since 2002, most notably making a deep run in 2008 by beating Gonzaga, Georgetown, and Wisconsin before losing in a close Elite Eight game to Kansas. You might remember our star player from that squad--Stephen Curry, who's having a great season with Golden State.

This team is bigger than many other teams, features great ball movement/control, fantastic FT shooting, and has a very deep bench. We've struggled in rebounding and controlling the tempo of the game in the past and have had some inconsistent shooting nights from some of our top scorers. That said, I think the team is gelling now. It's going to be a great game!

Oh, trust me, diplocat, Griz fans are very familiar with your program. Davidson has represented itself very well in the NCAA tourney. It would be a huge upset for Montana to sneak out of Charlotte with a win. I look forward to the match-up.

Welcome diplocat, always nice to have another schools fan on the board. I hope you'll excuse (and forgive) some of our more "colorful" fans if they decide to show up...

I'm also very excited for this match-up as it looks like it should be a good one. Also excited for the TV exposure it will bring for the Griz.

Sent my friend down at UC San Diego a Griz shirt today, so he can watch the game at a bar. I told him we'd adopt him for basketball since UCSD is D2, and he's a pretty big fan of USC, who is not very good at basketball this year.

Huge upset? We arent playing Duke or UNC. We are playing a team that is almost identical to us. The only thing that worries me is the ridiculous travel.. They are a good team and we are a good team, and if we were playing somewhere in between like Kansas it would be a barn burner. I still think it will be though, but we will get a taste of how tough we are, and thats exactly what we need. I truly disagree with it being a huge upset, and ESPN matched us up because they felt it was a great matchup. Not sure, but I think we are traveling further than anyone, and we had Utah St in our back yard. It was done because this game is one of the best mid major match ups. :thumb: oh yeah and Curry isnt there any more, Thank God :thumb:

You do know that just because it's in North Carolina, we AREN'T playing the Tar Heels, right? Because from your post(s), I don't think you understand that.

Yeah, right, slick move there, shylock. Denigrate the lack of comprehension of whom you assail; like he has never ever heard of even Appalachian State out of Boone, North Carolina. Or even of the North Carolina State Wolfpack out of Raleigh. Never heard of Wake Forest out of Winston-Salem nor Duke out of Durham, either. Chapel Hill? I think the State of North Carolina even has 58 community colleges even, with private schools like Elon thereabouts along with Duke but as long as you're the big honcho down at the local bar and grill you can delude yourself into thinking you got the last word and all that. Hell, the entire State of North Carolina has more attending college for all intends and purposes in their state than the entire population of the State of Montana. So don't humble yourselves before those that have been there and done that; just do what you normally do. Show up like a bunch of country hicks from out of the backwoods spouting off just how big you are.

Play the game the way it's meant to be played and keep your dicks in in your pants. You Missoulians seem to have trouble with that nowadays.

I think you're as "not game ready" as Blaine Taylor!

That NCAA run you guys had was the definition of March Madness. All of us as well as every other Mid Major program in the country were following you guys :thumb: What you guys did was amazing, and Curry was absolutely unstoppable.

Griz aren't getting any love from the SportsNation polls. The poll asks "Which team will win the BracketBusters matchup at Davidson? (Feb., 23, 3 ET, ESPNU)", and 75 % said Davidson. But, I'm sure most who voted are probably going off the fact that Davidson made a deep run in the tourney a few years back.

A win over Davidson would be a great win for the program, precisely because of Davidson's past success and folks assumptions about their current talent level. I think the Griz have a really good shot at making some national waves in NC next weekend. Go Griz!!

I agree. I was looking at the SoCon standings and, out of the 12 team conference, 3 are above .500 and it is not even close. Davidson had a losing record in their OOC games so it would seem like both UM and Davidson play in overly weak conferences. We will see if Montana comes out ready to play or if it is another Weber debacle.
