Bozeman reports annual sexual assaults, also have a problem

Whine all you want about both Montana schools and sex (wanted or not). Forget the BS talk about date rape drugs.....It is alcohol! The drug is ALCOHOL. Girls and boys 18 to 24 years drinking and NOT having sex makes me gasp. How dumb are you? Yes BOOZE that is served and drank at every game at all the schools. No sex? How many of you never had sex with a person after you both had a few beers?

We can fire most of the UM and MSU staff and sex with booze will continue forever! Yes, we all hate rape.....but keep drinking and "rape happens" ...some not violent, some forcible, a nasty violation, all bad!

Wild or violent behavior will not be tolerated. But hell, drink all you can!
I think you have made a VERY good point. Alcohol is involved in most crimes and Montana leads the nation in consumption per capita. There really is no solution. Kids are going to drink. But, not all kids, male or female will get involved with sex while drunk. The behavior is learned and it begins at home. What is scary to me is that there are over 15,000 students at UM yet a mere handful are sufficiently out of control to warrant a federal investigation. Sad commentary...

i cannot believe ANYONE would try to say then men sexually assaulting women wasn't as prevelant in past generations. IF ANYONE believes that you a moron. it isn't just past generations, it's as old as can and able. it wasn't good then and it isn't good now. but the difference between sexual assault in the 1950's and 2012 is its broadcast to everyone with a computer, phone, television set, ipod, ipad, itouch whatever. but to say it is more prevelant now is pure retardation.

In my 18 years of education, I did not hear of one case of rape...sorry. If it happened, both men and women certainly kept it secret from all around them.....

Does it scare anyone else that LA LA is involved in education of any kind?

:?

No wonder California is so fu*ked up................:coffee:

I really do wish the fans of both Montana, and Montana State, just pull together in supporting the powers to be to clean up everything wrong with each program. There are problems well beyond our fan bases. and these problems are wide spread throughout the country.

My hope is Montana, as a whole leads the way in finding resolutions, and putting a stop this crap. Can we please quit the pissing contests when something negative happens any player, or players, for either program?

Beyond the programs, I would love to see females, and students at both schools feel safe at either school, again. Good luck to both schools in finding solutions, and making a safe environment again, for everyone.

Great post mtgrizrule, couldn't have said it any better myself. They are both Univeristies in our great state, support and move forward.

College towns are fun as hell to live in. But they also have a bunch of 20 something drunk guys running around in em so the crime rates are always higher.

As I have said many times this supposed UM crime issue is bs its an issue we as a society need to get together and address. Its not the University of Montana running around commiting crimes its OUR KIDS!

How many by MSU football players? How many ignored by the school? By the law?

It's a different situation.

If USDOJ is going to investigate the universities and law enforcement practices in every community with these kinds of sexual assault numbers, they're going to be very busy indeed. I wonder what sets Missoula apart from every other town in the feds minds?

There has been, in the opinions of many victims and especially some of the assault/rape crisis centers (primarily 2 in Missoula), systematic "victim blaming" and result of that lack of followup and investigation by law enforcement and subsequently prosecutors failing to prosecute (we have no grand jury system in Montana) Innocent until proven guilty is still the standard BUT there is a belief that that guilt or innocence should be determined by a jury not the investigator or Prosecutor especially when there is a named perpetrator.

Aside from Bill Mercers comments (who's a little more political these days and no stranger to cover-ups) this is NOT the only such investigation the DOJ has done a number and in fact there is a very similar case occurring in Connecticut.

My opinion is that this is still essentially a Title IX investigation (which for now has been delayed although their press release says they are cooperating with the DOJ - no need to do two) The problem is that the City county and U of M are so intertwined that the department of Education felt they lacked authority to sort it all out beyond the University. The Barz report certainly involved the city and county folks.

In the end the WORST that will happen is the measures that have already taken place since the Barz report will either be expanded upon or found adequate. There probably is no smoking gun, but I suspect there will be either more firings or someone falling on their swords.

I think there is a smoking gun = Muir giving the "article" to one victim to discourage her from filing a complaint (and cc'ing the missoulian). That was flat-out stupid.

Can't disagree with that But then he has done stupider....
