Bowl Games

^^^ That. Boycotting bowl games is stupid. Everyone knows that the system is shit and needs to go away, but from a purely entertainment value standpoint, yesterday's Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl were hard to top, plus you throw in a Baylor/Washington game and an Air Force/Toledo game and you've got some pretty entertaining football.

I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who used the term "boycott," and I used it tongue in cheek (I said "apparently" I was "boycotting" the bowl games because I hadn't watched any yet). And I ended up watching a few. I always watch games that involve Pac-12 teams (regional loyalty and all), and these have been some of the best games yet. I have no plans to watch any of the rest, except for the "championship" game on Monday night.

Part of me thinks that bowl games are fine. It's always about the money, anyway, and bowl games have no pretense, really - they're just a big corporate whorefest pageant. And even with playoffs, there would always be controversy in terms of who got in, how they were seeded, etc. And the west would always be screwed somehow, which fits right in with the whorefest theme.

And is it really that important who is "numero uno?" It wasn't to Oregon or Oklahoma State last night. But I still like FCS playoffs, too.

You definitely weren't the only one making comments on not watching bowl games. There were more than a few posters stating they wouldn't watch, due to the "faulty system." Also, it seems like most of your comments are tongue-in-cheek, so to assume otherwise would be silly.... 8-)

Outside of that, your comments pretty much nailed it. However, I will be watching tonight, as well as the Orange Bowl (though that game doesn't excite me too much...which probably means that game will be awesome...)

I guess it time for me to admit that I have a problem, with it being New Years and all...Hello everyone, my name is Geddes, and I am a footballaholic...

I wasn't addressing you, if that's what you were thinking.. I've just been reading a lot of anti-bowl sentiment on various college sports mediums that I surf every day.. yesterday was some quality entertainment.

Hello everyone, my name is IdahoGriz, and [What he said].

I suppose I am the antithesis of the bowl boycotter. I DVR'd every game (so far) and have watched every one of them, skipping forward past all the blather. I can get through a game in about 40 minutes. Some games, like the two last night (Ducks/Badgers & Cowboys/Cardinal), I have watched in their entirety because I cared about the teams that were playing. And I agree that they were good games to watch. In fact about the only games that were duds were Southern Miss/Nevada game (not because of the final score but because both teams played like sh!t: too much poi and hula and not enough practice/focus) and the Wyoming/Temple game because it was clear (to me) that Wyoming didn't belong there. There rest have been more or less enttertaining with some being very good.

It wasn't a matter of Wyoming not belonging there, as they beat teams better than Temple, but it was a very, very poor matchup for the Cowboys... Pokes were 117th in the country in rush yards against, and Temple was 3rd in rushing yards.. easy math. Had they gotten SDSUs matchup vs. LA-Lafayette I think they might have won, and probably would have beaten Toledo as well, who defeated Air Force.. and I think they probably would have had a fair shot vs. Arizona State (all of these played MW opponents).. but man, that New Mexico Bowl was a disaster.. so poorly matched.

5Dimes could be dangerous. I was watching the Orange Bowl and decided to place a carnie bet on "who would score next". The score at the time was 17-14 Clemson.... needless to say I won that bet too...this has been a very productive bowl season for me!

I turned that game off when it was WVA up by 43...and watched the kid from San Clemente in the league finals being replaid on LA tv.....How did UM get a guy this good? He is a winner, for sure...for all you move up fans that continue to say UM is looked at as "small league" this is proof it is not...taken with Jamarr and Cherry, i'd say UM is very, very well respected in SoCal and the Coast.
