Bonds to.... Mariners?

I was checking on FoxSports.com in the Rumors section, and i read a little column about a month ago or so, from a writer from the Seattle P-I saying he thinks Bonds is a good fit for Seattle. I read it, thought to myself, eh probably not oh well.....

...until today

I checked into the FoxSports.com Rumor section again, and now a writer from San Fransisco is writing that Barry is saying he wouldnt mind playing for Seattle. And with the M's lacking in a good long ball hitter (dont even tell me Richie Sexon is because with his .204 BA and 70+ strikeouts he is a waste), could this really be for real? Could Bonds really be a Mariner next year? Or is this just me hoping and wishing?

Well, the fact that Yuniesky Betencourt has a higher slugging percentage than our everyday DH indicates that we suck bad enough to consider just about anything.

I hear ya. It makes me feel hopeless...one year in FA we pay for Bats (Sexon,Beltre)...the next year we pay for pitching (Washburn)..and we still cant win. At least if we get Bonds the stands wouldnt look so damn empty!

Sigh. There will be an article on Bonds DH'ing for a lot of teams this year. I've seen articles where he has talked about DH'ing for the Angels and the A's, so it makes sense that he would talk about the M's. He has to DH if he wants to keep playing. The Yankees would be the natural fit but they have Giambi.

At any rate, I sure hope not. I'm sick of guys coming to Seattle teams in an attempt to try and prolong their careers for a year or two. Patrick Ewing, Franco Harris, Jerry Rice, Warren Moon, Gaylord Perry. Good god, where does it end?

Edit to add: I'd bring back Griffey before I'd bring in Bonds. At least Griffey has some connection to the franchise and I'm betting that he will be available after this season.

true. they probably will...the M's have a thing for bringing back old talent for one last hurrah. wouldnt surprise me if they brought back Griffey for a year or two.

I've been a Mariners fan since 1995. If they EVER sign Bonds I will never cheer for them again.

as much as i want to keep thinking this wont happen Bonds is quoted on ESPN.com saying

"...this is a great place to play baseball"

maybe he is considering Seattle....ive heard more cheers during their current series then ive heard elsewhere...even rivaling San Fran.

What difference does it make where he is if nobody pitches to him?

I'm not trying to be a jerk and start a flame war, I seriously want to know.

I believe he'll wind up an Athletic.

If i'm Bonds I'm not coming to Seattle. That park is built for hitters not long ball guys. Supposedly that was one of Jr's reason's for wanting to go home to Cincy. I know Bond's is looking for an American League city to play in. Too bad for him Denver is National League. I don't think he's gonna get the record any way and it will be A-rods in about 10-15 years, of course that's what everyone was saying about Griffey Jr. when he left Seattle. Oh yea one more thing...YANKEES SUCK :finger:

i hear now that the Marlins are interested in him. Why?!?!?! Sure they are turning things around slowly. But Miami isnt exactly a hitters ballpark either

Simpson as a Niner
Namath as a Ram
Harris as a Seahawk
Mays as a Met

Jim Brown knew when it was time unlike the others. Barry is already a circus and the circus does not need to go to Seattle. How does Seattle really benefit from it.

Jr. just passed Schmidt for 11th on the all-time list. If he had not been injured so much in the past, who knows were he would be now. I think he once said that he is not a homerun hitter. Weird, considering he is 11th & climbing.
