My best to Bolomboy and Weber State. I am guessing he will be out for awhile. If so, this really impacts Weber State's defense and rebounding. http://www.standard.net/Weber-State/2016/02/20/weber-state-basketball-northern-arizona-recap-joel-bolomboy-injury.html

I just happened to be watching when this happened. It appeared as though he just hyperextended it. I hope that's the case and there's no ligament damage.

The initial contact didn't look like much. Until he tried to get up & put weight on it, then immediately down in pain. I certainly hope it's minor. Hope JB is up and back at full speed soon.

Today's update---bone bruise, rehabbing, no timetable on return.

That's an "odd" injury from what could be seen from the videos. Looked like an MCL stretch, "catch," or tear.

It sounds like a bone bruise can occur with a twisting injury (like an ACL tear) too.

This link explains a bit about bone bruises, what they are and the healing process. Hopefully Bolomboy's isn't too serious and he can rehab fairly quickly.

About ten years back, I managed to get a lower leg bruise, near my knee. I got drilled by an over thrown relay throw as the 3rd base coach in junior league baseball. I thought something was broken and could not put weight on it either. I iced it and treated it every day. It took 3 weeks for me to even jog on the leg. It took 6 weeks for me to be able to run and feel close to normal again. I was in a lot of pain for about 2 weeks. No recurring injuries or problems with it since either. :thumb:

This looks like it could be what my teenage son has had twice. He had an unusual internal knee bruise, in an odd place. It was the result of what was essentially a bad hyper-extension. My son's knees naturally hyper-extend, i.e. the joint actually positions a bit backwards when fully extended and locked back. As a result, the bruise occurred internally toward the front of the knee (I think), and in a place where normally the ACL will tear before the bruise occurs. The initial on-field and early diagnosis is often an ACL tear. However, x-rays and MRI show that the ACL is fine and where the bruise is.

Neither injury looked like a bad or horrible injury when it occurred. The first time, he didn't even go down, after getting bumped on the run, and was able to play on through the pain for a bit. The second time, there was also a small hairline fracture. In the first, he was able to start practicing in less than a week and played a game within 8 days. It was healing fast, getting better every few days. The second time took longer, I think about 3.5 weeks. That time, he practiced once in about 10 days, but he couldn't cut, was limping and it became clear that he needed to stay off of it.

I wonder if Bolomboy has a knee that naturally over-extends.

The bone bruise as PR said can heal within 1-6 weeks depending obviously. the one thing that really sucks that can develop are osteochondral defects, which are essentially the area that bruises dies. I'm sure many have heard of microfracture surgery in the knee...that's a surgery for these lesions. Think of the player that Penny Hardaway was early in his career. Then had microfracture...and not as good. That's the risk with some of these type injuries. Doesn't seem bad, but can end up real crappy. Hope he's OK as he's my favorite non griz player. I love rebounders and love how he plays the game.
