Bobby and UNLV lose again...

Best option for head coach is Jonathan Smith, but is he willing to take a risk with the pay cut?
LOL, no. He makes $500,000+ at Washington. His small time college football days are over.

Tim Rosenbach or Brent Pease might take the pay cut to be head man at Montana but Jonathon Smith has moved to far up the food chain for us at this point.

BH is the winningest coach in Griz history, but didn't win the NC every year. Fact. If you have a personal problem with him, state it, but to blame him for everything from global warming to your expanding waistline is bullsh*t. This is nothing but vendetta. Are any on this board Division I head coaches? I thought not.

Do you have to be a div i head coach to make an observation about the competence or incompetence of a coach? Maybe. Although it is true that there are many variables that go into winning or losing football games, the head man has to take ownership of them at some point. Bobby took over a Montana team that was essentially at the pinnacle of the FCS. He more of less (I think less) maintained that level for several years until he could go onto bigger and better things. Whomever said he was a perfect example of the Peter Principle was spot on. He is good at maintaining a program but essentially incompetent at building one. He did a good job recruiting players to Montana but I would argue that the program sold itself. He has been unable to out recruit anyone in the Mountain West during his time at UNLV as far as I can tell. If we want to maintain our program where it is now or possibly a slow decline over the years then by all means go hire Hauck when he gets fired the year after next.

Dennehey, Glenn and Bobby all did poorly after moving onto low level FBS jobs (although Glenn and Hauck got their teams to a bowl game). Don Read was good at maintaining Portland State, but washed out at Oregon (2-9, 3-8, 4-7). Man, will we ever get a competent coach at Montana that can build this program?

I don't think you understand the Peter Principle.

All BH needs is a competent QB like he had last year. Why that's not so is due to many factors. He's blamed on the Rebel board for poor recruiting, which we all know he's not a poor recruiter. Several have blamed the lack of admin. support, lack of facilities for athletes, distance and condition of the stadium, among others. For example, Sam Boyd Stadium has dirt parking lots; how's that for a visiting prospect?

Last year, Hauck finally went to the QB that turned the team around. That kid has graduated, so all he has is a JUCO transfer, Decker, who's not performing as a starter. Then 2nd stringer, Sherry, that he benched last year. All he has for 3rd string is a freshman.

Anu Solomon, QB for the 10th ranked AZ Wildcats, is out of a LV HS. Think BH didn't try to recruit him? If not, he was probably told up front by the kid & his parents to forget it. Bishop Gorman HS in LV is the #1 ranked HS team in the country by USA Today. You think that QB will attend UNLV?

Seems to me a chicken & egg thing: You can't recruit quality players, due to a losing program, and you can't get a winning program unless you recruit quality players.

BH may have thought that despite all that, he could produce a winning program. Maybe he's learning something.

Personally, I don't care one way or the other about Bobby. He won a lot of games here. Then he quit and moved on. He's yesterday's news.

But how many times have you read on this board (about Montana in particular) that the team's success or failure is all about the coaching? Well, if that's true, then Bobby should be judged by the same standard at UNLV.
