They don't come better than Beers, both understanding LB play and scouting. I think had he seen more film of Dante he might be more positive on his range; he played sideline to sideline, but I'm sure Bob's relating it to NFL incumbents. Also while his comparison to Brock Coyle is good, Dante is a notch above Brock at least at this level. Bob was a great LB in spite of being vertically challenged - and the OL coach of our best OLs.

Good article. I would have like to know what he thought of pass coverage skills. It really was never mentioned in the article. Obviously, its not his strong suit at this level, but I would like to know where he stands regarding backs out of the backfield, hook-to -flats zone, TE Coverage, etc. I look forward to him on Sundays!

Did you read the article? He pretty much said he doesn't think Dante can cover. When a coach says a LB is a first and second down guy it means he's a run stop hole plugger. Which Dante will be world class at, he'll surprise people in space with his smarts, but he's not going 35 deep with a slot back.

Yeah the guy talks in nfl speak, made it pretty clear Dante was not going to be dropping into coverage.

Ps. Beersy was my freshman coach at Butte Central. Loved the guy.

It was noted in my comment about the coverage skills. I would hope, that he was not going to be covering slots backs for 35 yards. It could have been a small commentary as to what his 'pros' and 'cons' were in pass coverage. The NFL is a chess match. Now I get it, every time Dante is in the game; the other team will not pass it, because they know he is a run stopper.
