Billings Central Hanser

infiltrator

Well-known member
Hanser originally gave a soft verbal to Washington State in August, but made an official visit to the campus in Pullman, Wash., last weekend and confirmed his commitment.

The 6-5, 210-pound Hanser said he will receive a full-ride scholarship to play outside linebacker for the Cougars. Hanser will be designated as a “greyshirt,” meaning he will not enroll at WSU until the spring semester of 2014.

Hanser made 37 tackles with 3½ sacks and seven tackles for loss for the Rams last season.

***Is it just me or does his stats seem low for a linebacker in high school? Did he get injured?

I thought grey shirts still went to school but their schollie didn't kick in until their grey shirt was up, meaning they had to pay their own way until then? What the heck is the kid gonna do until the spring semester of 2014?

My understanding is that for eligibility sake you have 5 years to play four seasons. That 5 year window begins as soon as you are enrolled as a full time student. A player can either enroll part time under 12 credits and pay their own way for that semester or they can wait to enroll full time that following spring.

Billings Central could have competed for the AA crown this year. Not saying they would have won it, but they were that good. Including the playoffs, their average score was 40+ to 6. So they went through the roster to the point where many sophomores had almost as much time as the seniors. Also Hanser did deal with a lingering thing (not sure exactly what) much of the season. So often the coach only played him early in the game.

The kid has excellent skills, instinct, and hits hard. He is rather thin for his height. Prior to enrolling I'd guess he would spend next year working somewhere, and working out to bulk up for college.

Billings Central has put together a good football program.

I don't think he has to enroll, but if he does enroll, I think he has to be at 6 credits or less otherwise the eligibility clock will start ticking. Theoretically, since he's not signing, I think he could be a recruitable athlete until signing day 2014, so I suppose it's possible he could still end up somewhere other than Pullman.

Wonder if we offered either this kid or Stanton (MSU signee and coach's kid).....why I am curious..... .Billings Central's head coach is related to Mick Delaney......

The campus is sweet, man! It's a great football atmosphere, especially when WSU is competitive. I know it has been awhile, but there was a time when WSU won 10 games a year and had great fan support.

I can' t argue with you about the location, though. The drive from Spokane takes forever and is supremely boring. But they've got a great school with excellent research facilities and resources for life beyond football. UM can't compare.

The Hanser kid will be a great linebacker. I went to HS with his dad Scott who played LB for Wyoming and his uncle Shawn who played briefly for the griz. Both were awesome players, big, strong and good football instincts. Scott has been coaching for many years and I have no doubt the kid was bred to be a football player. He will be a good fit for the cougs and congrats to him.

WSU's stadium upgrades are great. The Cougs have a good coaching staff and the school has offerings MSU and UM don't. Pullman isn't Missoula, but UM has more in common with EWU than WSU.

Didn't know Delaney and Stanton were related. Also don't know if UM offered either of these two.

Yet I do know Jacob Stanton was going to make an official visit to both MSLA and BOZO. Can only speculate MSU made an offer and UM didn't because of the slew of Wide Receiver recruits the Griz had already lined up.

Although he played QB this year for Billings Central, that was due to someone else's injury. His true position is wide receiver. Jacob Stanton is a great kid and a player. Sorry the Griz didn't pursue him harder. The cats picked up a good one who will produce for them.

the Griz offered Hanser a full and wanted him BADLY. Stanton chose a partial at MSU over a preferred walkon at UM..Can't blame him for that.
