Northern Colorado will accept a bid to the College Insider Tournament if, as expected, they get bypassed by the NIT. The Bears will host a game on Wednesday in Greeley:

This falls squarely into the "Everybody gets a trophy" philosophy.

Would you be pissing in the cheerios of the Grizzlies if they finished second or third this year to get a NIT or CBI bid instead of an NCAA bid?

I say more power to Weber State and Northern Colorado. Win a few and make the best of playing some extra hoops.

Sorry, folks, but I'm not real sure what the College Insider Tournament is -- can somebody fill me in?

"This falls squarely in the category of everybody gets a trophy."

Well, not compared to Division I football, where more than 50 percent of the teams play in a post-season bowl game. (Or most major professional sports, where 40 to 50 percent of the teams qualify for the playoffs). In Division I basketball, only 129 out of 365 teams make the post-season (35 percent).

16 team tourney below the NIT, if you will. Oregon St won it last year and are in it again. The only team w/ a sub-.500 record.

I believe this is the 2nd or 3rd year.

You do realize that the FCS is Division 1 right??? :|

Only in Doug Fullerton's mind. It will always be 1-AA to me.

Exactly, Old Dominion won the CIT last and now they are in the NCAAs, must of done them some good.

One reason coaching staffs like post-season games -- even if they only break even or lose money -- is the extra playing, and coaching, time they can "legally" get with their teams. NCAA rules on allowed hands-on coaching time versus "voluntary" practices can get really messy and hard to sort out. However, the staff is allowed direct coaching and practice time when the team is headed for NCAA-sanctioned post-season event. It also gives the athletes more incentive to stay in shape and pay attention during practice sessions.

So what we REALLY need is ANOTHER tournament, below the NIT and the CIT called the WGAFIT and the other 200 teams can all say they were tournament teams too.

We get it, AZGrizFan. You're not a fan of the NIT/CBI/CIT tournaments.

I don't think teams that finish below .500 (at least in conference) should get any kind of post season bid, even if they win their tournament championship. A lot of those CBI/CIT teams could easily be described as "middling" but some of them had great seasons. St. Louis comes in 4th in the Atlantic 10 with 20 wins. Are the undeserving? College of Charleston finishes second and wins 21 games. Are they undeserving? If anyone is undeserving it's the U of North Carolina or U Conn.

But I still think just about every coach, player and fan of these teams is happy to play extra hoops and believe you'd be singing a different tune if the Griz finished second or third in the Big Sky this year.

Great. Super. Outstanding.

Still reminds me of 3rd grade YMCA Rec-league basketball. Everybody gets a trophy. Everybody gets to say they were a "tournament" team.
