Best College Pole Vault by Polson Woman: Melinda Owen

PlayerRep

Well-known member
The top college pole vault in the nation (14 ft. 5-1/4 in.)--and 4th best in nation--this year, is by Idaho track star and Polson high grad, Melinda Owen.

She had top 10 pole vaults and javelin throws coming out of high school. The Owen family, including cousins, have produced alot of good athletes, including her sister in softball, and brothers and cousins in wrestling and football, including college wrestling.

They quit using bamboo long ago. :thumb:

lol. Close, but not quite that old.

However, my grandpa did hold the Nebraska state record using a bamboo pole. And they landed in sawdust. He said he really didn't want to go much higher, as it was hurting to fall that far.

Recently, a new clinical study suggested that grandkids of Nebraska pole vaulters, who used bamboo pole vaults and landed in sawdust, didn't fare well in any athletic endeavors especially polevaulting!
