Tod said:The big conferences may not like it, but what about autobids for all FBS conferences, and a 24 team playoff, like FCS is doing? Top eight get byes, others prove themselves (or go home) in week one. Just don't see why that wouldn't be by far the biggest event in all of athletics in America. Huge!
Dahhh, that's what my 12 team playoff model creates. It brings all conferences into the playoff, with the 4 smaller conferences combined into 2 spots. The best team in the country would make this field every year. 4 At Large berths bring all great non-champ teams into the mix. Actually, the bottom 4 conferences could be evaluated so if the MWC is better than the Big E on a given year, the Big E is in the bottom 4, and has to play in for a spot.
12 Spots:
1) SEC Champ
2) B1G Champ
3) ACC Champ
4) PAC12 Champ
5) Big 12 Champ
6) Big E Champ
7) MWC/MAC Champ* (Determined by MWC vs. MAC Championship Game)
8) CUSA/SunB Champ* (Determined by CUSA vs. SunB Championship Game)
9) At Large 1
10) At Large 2
11) At Large 3
12) At Large 4
Seed the 12:
Round 1: 1-4 Bye; 5 v 12, 6 v 11, 7 v 10, 8 v 9
Round 2: 1 v 8-9, 2 v 7-10, 3 v 6-11, 4 v 5-12
Round 3: Final 4 site
Round 4: NC Site
Every team in FBS would have a playoff shot (EVERY TEAM). The best team in FBS would be in this group of 12, no question. I would not expand beyond 12, too many games would be needed. The top 4 would only play 3 games to win a championship, due to a bye in the 1st round. This would be the right scenarios for FBS.
