Basketball Practice starts Oct 12th 7:01 pm

FYI Official start of NCAA D-1 Basketball Practice starts Oct 12th 7:01 pm. While I know you can mosey down to the Field House and watch the team scrimmage between 3:00-6:00 you will notice that no coaches are around for the most part. Official practice with coaches and team instruction can not take place until the 12th.

By the way what the hell happened to some of your player!! When you signed Tyler Hurley he was listed at 6-7. He might be 6-4. Martin was listed last year 6-2, I am 5-11 when I stand up strait, at most he is only an inch taller than me. Is it the food? How are you guy's shrinking these guy's. On the other hand I think you can tell Selvig it is time to stop growing up and start growing out. If 6-11 Qvale is taller than Selvig it is not by much, but if Selvig is over 200lb's I would be surprised. By the way It looks to me that Elgin-Taylor has a groin pull, as someone who suffered though multiple pulls I recognize the walk.

fudging heights is common in college basketball, and i don't know why it's done, who thinks they're fooling whom, or why. in any case, once a game starts, the truth reveals itself immediately.

the most notorious recent case for montana is gus chase. he was listed at 6'5", but if he was 6'2" i'd a been damned surprised. i even question vanderjagt's true height. the last time i saw him, i towered over him. just another case of truth often being seen but seldom heard--or read.

Of course I said most of this in jest, but normally a team will be consistent when they fudge height(and all teams fudge height) When I saw Martin yesterday from floor level I was trying to figure out who the new 5-11 point guard was. His hair is pretty long, right now so I did not recognize him, at first. He was at least 2 inches shorter than any other player on the court. Who knows maybe he hunches over like I do. The griz roster on the Griz site has Hurley at 6-5, the roster on the Big Sky Conf. site has him at 6-4, that is small forward size. Selvig made some outstanding passes, inside, but boy he really needs to get some weight on his frame if he is going to go down low. Team looked good though.

Oh by the way measurements are my business!!

Argh, this is the time of the year I regret not being in Missoula. I miss GRIZ football, and even miss basketball more. Someone go check out the open gyms, then practices and fill me in. As for height of a few of the players. Selvig is a legit 7'. He is taller than Tinkle and appeared to me to be taller than Qvale. Hurly appeared to be a legit 6'5" to me. I am 6'2" and slightly taller than Matt. I think he is 6', maybe 6'1". I look forward to any and all basketball news. GO GRIZ

I'm gonna try to get out to something. It may not be until the 12th, first official practice, but we'll see. Will have a full write up.

Are you sure you don't have Vanderjagt confused with someone else? You'd have to be 7'3'' to tower over him because he looks 7' to me. 6'10'' at the very least. Matt Martin is only about 5'10'', though.

Exaggerating size in basketball doesn't really have the same intimidation factor than it does it football. Completely unnecessary IMO.
