Bad ass helmets!

Uniforms are part of a kid's decision on which school to pick. For example, this is one reason kids pick Montana over Montana State. MSU has clown uniforms.

Clown? The Griz are the one's that wear Blood Pink .. I guess that could be why some athletes choose the Griz I guess .. Thug colors? :)

Those were by far the best helmets I have ever seen! Shiny silver in the daylight, getting darker as the light waned-friggin' awesome! With the Griz paw instead of the duck wings, along with our silver pants........Griz/cats maybe? Think I'd cream my carharts if they ran out of the tunnels with than ensemble on. I wonder how many potential Duck recruits made their decision to go to Eugene after turning on their TV's and seeing those shiny ass helmets?

cool helmets but if a recruit made his decision based on a helmet, then his priorities are all f'ed up.
yeah, it seems this tactic of having cool uniforms has really led oregon to crap down their own leg

dapooyer griz kid: "dad, I've narrowed down my decision and I'd really like to play at Stanford"

dapooyer griz dad: "Stanford?!? Why, they got ugly a$$ helmets son!"

apooyer griz kid: "But dad.... I'll have a better opportunity to start for Stanford and get a better education"

dapooyer griz dad: "Oh for Christ's sake kid! didn't you hear me? Their helmets are FUGLY. Don't make your decision on playing time and a silly education! Go play at Oregon and get wear one of them cool frreaking helmets (ahem... so you can pass it on to your old man)"

dapooyer griz kid: "Yes dad..."
Looked to me like those super smart kids starting at Stanfor got their asses kicked by those shallow kids playing for Oregon are you pissed Stanford lost to a team who makes some horrible fashion statements sometimes or the fact that I am right and you have a sub 80 iq

I like how all college teams who sign a deal with nike are essentially giving money to oregons athletic budget.

BRILLIANT!

I don't know how sCats negotiate, but the point of getting a sponsor (signing a deal with some company) like Nike, is to get money and/or equipment from that sponsor - not to pay them.

Duh.

Yeah.....nike loses millions of dollars a year on college athletics. The folks in Beaverton have no idea what they're doing.

Who said that Nike loses money on these deals? Nike donates the equipment. Sponsorships are advertising, which is a cost of doing business. Their goal is to get fans and other users of the products to buy Nike shoes and clothes for a profit.

So then we agree............

I was fortunate enough to have been golfing when paired up with Scott Zanon, the three sport UM letterman, who was the marketing manager at Nike who negotiated the deal with the Griz. Actually Scott does high school sports marketing but stepped out of his role to do this deal. He said that the Griz got a much better deal than a team of their stature would otherwise deserve (thank you Scott!). Given that Nike comes back year after year and the Griz continue to sign up, it must be a mutually beneficial arrangement.

BTW - Scott is a hell of a good golfer. He can hit the ball a country mile. One other thing that Scott mentioned that was kind of interesting, even though the Zanon family lived in Kalispell that none of them live in Montana any more. Be thankful for the loyalty of a well placed alum.

Sub 80 IQ? Maybe you ought to reread your post and add some punctuation.

well, lets say that their affair with Nike has been predominantly in the last 15 years more so as of recently. In their history they have 10 conference championships 6 of which have been in the last 15 years...their record is 150-61 in the last 15 years and prior to that, they were 91-109-4...seems that these gosh darn kids with their new fangled idears and not liking tradition is working out pretty damn good for Oregon. I notice these universities with all the tradition like oh say Notre Dame are just the cats meow lately...oh wait, they are the shits in the last 20 years. It's not my fault they are winning, I don't even like them, definitely was cheering for Stanford but you wouldn't care about that, too busy whining and complaining about the good old day. Look at the facts how am I wrong.

edit also, if the only thing you have to say is der you forgot a comma and period your arguement is not very good. Did I make some gramatical errors...yep are ya gonna live...yep did I get the point across...yep Does your screen name indicate you like to fornicate with men and possibly sheep...yep

I am neither a sheep nor gay so I fail to see why I would be worried. I do however love the argument to the facts.

The Oregon helmets were AWESOME. :thumb:

As if Black Mamba wasn't incredibly fast enough, the glare from his streaking helmet really did make him look like lightening bolting down the field.

Funny story: Was playing Donkey Kong     in the University Center one night in 1981 and Craig Zanon walked up and put his quarter on the machine (the international symbol for "nexties" ). I finished my game and proceeded to push "Start" to play the NEXT game, since I'd put in 4 quarters. Craig got pissed and we got into a bit of a scuffle over, of all things: Donkey Kong.

 True story.
