This is one of the best acts of sportsmanship I've ever seen.

One of the girls, Liz Wallace, carrying the injured Western Oregon athlete around the bases is originally from Florence, MT. Liz's brother plays football for MSU.

actually, being a coach there and seeing the look on his face when he won..the look on his mom's face talking to the Townsend coach. It's great. Troy didn't know it was given to him because Clancy wrestled him at Divisionals the next week and Troy thought he was going to win again. Kind of disappointed at the people on this board. Being hugged by a mother saying thank you while she's crying kind of takes the dick competetiveness out of you. I don't think I could have done what Clancy did and I doubt you would have been that big of a man either.

This act had nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with a win or a loss in the sports arena. But it was a gigantic victory in terms of a kid going out of his way to do something that will have a positive lifelong impact on another human being. A human being that the majority of people on this planet have no clue at how life looks through his eyes. Clancy didn't give Troy a wrestling win, he gave him one of the best moments in his life. Both kids and families won.

So the wrestler threw a scrimmage match to give somebody one career victory. So what? It didn't affect his record or hurt the wrestling team score.

Why should people be upset?

When you know something is given to you its not the same as earning it so I just dont get these circle jerks about a story where somebody laid down so a kid could win a match even he knew was not a real victory. Have we really slid so far as a society that people like you guys need false validation to feel good about living?

The basketball story is different the kid still had to go out and perform knocking down the 3s.........this was just a participation trophy that was handed away.

Sorry to bring common sense to this discussion...............you guys can continue with your back slappin, giddy, feel goodedness............

I'm not a fan of participation trophys, the mercy rule, or no-score tee ball games either, but this is different. It's a great story and a selfless act that says alot about the kids character. If that act, gives that kid "the best moment of his life", then why should you give a shit? I don't feel vindicated about anything. I'm happy to see stuff like this happen because I have seen my aunt and uncle struggle with a son with a severe mental disability. Their son competes in the Special Olympics every year and every year he finishes close to last in every event he enters, but those medals he recieves mean the world to him and has made a huge positive impact on his life and have even changed his behavior for the better. For kids that have a severe disadvantage, moments of accomplishment are rare, so any kind of win (real or not) is huge for them. Common sense to anybody that has had to deal with what this kid and his parents have had to go through...

I'm with you on this, HighLine. The idea and act by the good wrestler was good any way you look at it, but the statements of the "winning wrester" magnified the act and were touching: "best moment of his life". How great is that. Hats off to the good wrestler. That kid will go far in life. The other kid seems like a terrific kid too. I loved all of what he said. He obviously had been listening to his coach too. In fact, kudos to his coach too. The three of them are all winners in my book.

Of course the world looks different throught every individual's eyes so let me clarify. The majority of people on this planet CAN'T EVEN RELATE to how the world is viewed through his eyes. Myself included. What may be just a normal ho-hum event to most of us may very well change the world for this kid.
