Average 40 Yard Dash times

Lorenzo Jerome's stock has fallen based in part on his 40 time:

Lorenzo Jerome, Saint Francis, S, 5-10, 204

Coming off terrific postseason performances at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and Reese’s Senior Bowl, there was growing buzz surrounding Jerome. But with him lacking in height, NFL personnel wanted to see Jerome post a solid time in the 40, and he didn’t while running in 4.73 seconds and his official 4.70 mark. He’ll seek to lower the slow time at Saint Francis’ Pro Day on March 16. The Red Flash haven’t have an NFL Draft pick since 1945.

NFL COMBINE coverage on NFL NETWORK:

Lorenzo Jersome getting in his stance, announcer Mike Mayock said, "Lorenzo Jerome, small school kid from Saint Francis College. I am really intrigued by this kid, he's come out of no where since the end of season. He went to the NFLPA game, had 2 INT. Got promoted to the SR BOWL, had 2 INT and a forced fumble. I went back and watched his tape. His MONTANA tape is frigin' outstanding! And this is an imprtant time for him because I am not sure how fast he is.

Lorenzo Jerome is sprinting the 40

Deon Sanders comments, "He doesn't look fast."

Mike Mayock says, "Nope, and it was a 4.73, which is what I was worried about."

Deon Sanders repeated, That did not look fast."

Mike Mayock, "That's too bad. He's a really good football player. Atleast I still think he's going to make a team. I was just hoping he'd find a way t get into those 4.5's.

Lorenzo Jerome 2nd 40 yard dash:

He's in his stance, announcer Mike Mayock urges, "Alright Lorenzo, Come-on Man! 5'10, 204 lbs. He dominated at that level for 4 years.

Sprints the 40...

Announcer Rich Eisen says, "4.71"

Mike Mayck grunts, "EH!"

Charles (announcer) commented, "And guys this is tough to watch because of the time, because we talk about scouting these guys on tape...he makes plays...reminds me of Eric Wettle."

Mike Mayock says, "I was worried about his speed because he was playing against MONTANA and some other teams. He wasn't playing against John Ross."

I think Kickers should have to run the 40 as well since the combine is EVERYTHING to these pundits now days.

I heard that they are. It's just that they are going to wait to start the kickers at the very end of the combine. That way they should be done by draft day......

I expect to see great things from Kupp in the NFL. He is a possession receiver, If the ball touches his hands, he is going to haul it in. I think the 40 times are WAY over-rated!
They are, I think the Shuttle time is more important. lets you know how fast they can cut in and out.

agreed. the shuttle demonstrates a player's agility much more effectively. i always thought a 20 yard dash would be a better way of evaluating players. its a more useful gauge of reaction time and acceleration. it's just silly to make offensive linemen run the 40; not pertinent at all to positions like that.
