geez, all our recruiting mistakes coming back to haunt us. swift, rundles, van vliet and vanderjagt--all washouts at montana. no mystery what happened between trips to the big dance.

I am happy for Austin, but watching him today, I do not think he had what it takes to be a Div 1 player.

Austin came in with that versatility and size to play Div 1. What held him back was his willingness to do what it takes to reach his potential. The scrimmage his Sophomore year, he was without doubt the swing player we had for overall game. He just did not live up to his potential. Austin was his own worse enemy. Nonetheless Austin, Congratulations.

That scholarship helped us land AJ.

Van Vliet, and Vanderjagt? Where are they now? Heard Vliet went back to Cali JC, and what about Vjack?? We didnt lose anything by letting these boys go on!! Congrats to both Swift and Rundles, you both had great seasons, but so did we!!! Not trying to start a fire, just sayin!!!

Vanderjagt went to Western Washington and has done ok. I saw him play on Altitude a couple weeks ago and would say he was hanging in there. Selvig is immeasurable better. I think LK missed on DV.
Van Vliet has been in and out of trouble with the law since he got run out of Missoula.

Last I heard of Van Vliet was that he was in jail awaiting trial for selling drugs

the great montana basketball legacy that was started by jud heathcote, and continued through jim brandenburg, mike montgomery and stew morrill, really hit the dumper under blaine taylor, and it all began with one bum recruiting class--don carter, the seven footer from oregon and a kid from las vegas (both of whom left the program completely) plus dominique davis, a project who never really fulfilled his potential. it had been our tradition to recruit mostly high school kids and give them a redshirt year, assuring a steady flow of mature talent, but this one bad class created a huge hole in the program that we basically tried to plug with jaycee transfers, and that's when the basketball program began its slide.

it came back briefly, thanks to pat kennedy's recruiting and krysko's coaching, but hit another bad stretch because of bum recruiting--vandejagt, van vliet, swift and rundles. you just can't make that many recruiting mistakes in such a short period of time and sustain the excellence of your program.

has tinks corrected all this? i believe he has. and i believe he's got it back to the point we can base our recruiting on high school seniors, and fill in only ocasionally with jaycee transfers.

And people think Krysko was/is a god. Hell he didn't like to recruit and it is proven if you look at who be brought in. I think you are a little harsh on Taylor, the guy has proven beyond a doubt he can recruit, coach, and graduate players. He took an ODU program that had done nothing and has a legit top 25 team coming back next season. Did Blaine make fun of your peculiar clothing choices city? ;)
