I saw this week that coach Ash's base salary was around $245,000, with max with bonus up to over 500k? Can anyone confirm why the discrepancy between MSU and UM? Tenure? Cost of living? Homers in BOR? Thanks in advance.

Not even close. His base last season was about $173,000 and he was getting annual raises of about 3.2%

Did that include the "perks" that come with just showing up to work? I don't think so. I think your number is just that, the base. However, without the performance bonuses, the true base is about $245,000 if you include things like the Bobcat Sports Report, the free truck, and various other perks for the head coach at MSU, which he would declare as income on a tax return.

Performance bonuses for a perfect year of winning the brawl, the conference, and the natty would take it to about $450,000 if I remember correctly.

$175 base with plenty of incentives.

+$30K for radio show

+$30K for TV show

So basically a base salary of $235K, plus the following performance bonuses

+$2500 each semester for team GPA above 2.75
+$5000 each school year for team GPA above 2.75
+APR bonuses:
$10K for APR min 930
$5K for APR min 945
$5K for APR min 960

+$21,500 for fundraising activities (booster events, golf tourney, etc)
+$10K for playing a BCS team
+$10K for Big Sky Coach of the Year
+$7500 for regional or national Coach of the Year
+$10K for Big Sky Championship
+games won bonus:
$5K for 8 wins
$7500 for 9 wins
$7500 for 10 wins
+$7500 for making FCS playoffs
+7500 for making 2nd round
+7500 for Semi-finals
+$15K for Finals
+$50K for NC

So if he had the best year of his life and hit all performance targets, he'd make $431,500, PLUS

reportable as income benefits:
- Country Club dues
-Spouse travel
-Season Football and Basketball tickets for MSU
-Vehicle
-Athletic apparel

Bummer. I feel like MSU should do the classy thing and honor his slacks allowance through the end of the contract. It wouldn't be very classy to not do that.

You can probably add the $21.5K for booster events as an automatic. All he has to do is show up for them.
