Appy St. #54

Not defending Jabari at all if he really did that..

But, he was consistently held every game this year (including against the griz), and not once did he complain to the refs. A few of the Griz o-line also got some cheap shots on him..

Not defending what he did if he really did flip the crowd off.

#54 was doing that stuff all game long. His coaches were in his face several times.

Well I will say this, if our players acted this way (esp. the bird flip!) then I am embarrassed. Yes emotions run high during ALL games and especially one with this much on the line but that is NO excuse. Not to take this in a different direction either but it is this lack of discipline that probably cost us the game. We have seen it all year in Boone and sadly, were waiting for it to cost us. Eleven penalties is ridiculous at this point in the season, especially the personal fouls. IF the crowd noise was to blame for some illegal procedure stuff so be it....If conditions cause some issues so be it....Personal fouls are inexcusable Even the final kick-off we returned somewhere up past the 40 and they backed it up again...Put those yards and time back on there and perhaps the outcome changes but we will never know because of lack of discipline!!!

My sincere congrats to you guys for a class squad and crowd...rooting hard for y'all on friday night and looking forward to the Home and Home...

I thought ASU played really clean. I was on the opposite 5 yard line so I didn't see what that one personal foul was on the kickoff. It seemed most of the penalties were illegal procedures. There was that facemask by a db tackling Chase, but you can't think that was intentional. When Chase is running by you in the secondary ya gotta grab in desperation. Its hard not to hold in the snow, and most of all of the time nobody got called for holding.

I didn't see any bird-flipping, but if it happened from one player, well that's not too bad for an extremely emotional game. I mean in a perfect world all 18 -22 young men would have complete control over their emotions at all times, but football or no that ain't ever gonna happen. And seeing a finger doesn't hurt anyone ...

... well seeing fingers crossed and curled does seem to hurt some people. :?

It's always amazed me that some are so offended by it. There are people doing life because they killed someone for flipping them off. Morons. A finger in the air never hurt anyone, it means you got into his head. You won!

App's first play of the game was a 9 yard run by Armanti and he ended up out of bounds right by Hauck. Coach gave him a hand up and Armanti took it. Thought that was pretty cool.

If Fletcher flipped off the crowd, that's unacceptable...sure, emotions are high, but I've sat in WaGriz with Montana fans & while they are loud & proud, they are classy fans are knowledgable of the game and appreciate hard, clean, well- played football. Case in point the hit by Thopson on cline...sure, the place went crazy...they shoudl...it was an awesome hit....then, the fans gave Cline an rousing ovation when he got up & jogged of the field....classy fans....(btw, you gotta admit Cline returning from the hit & being as big a factor as he was was almost as impressive as the hit itself....almost...)

Ya.... We were all saying how tough that kid's gotta' be to come back and play WELL after a hit like that.

As an App fan, it broke my heart to see Jabari Fletcher flip off the Montana crowd. There is no excuse for what he did. I don't know Jabari but have heard he's a terrific kid who just wears his emotions on his sleeve. I think it was just a bad moment for a good guy. (Fletcher's teammates nicknamed him The Mayor because he's so friendly to everyone!) Our AD Charlie Cobb just about tackled him on the field, so I have a feeling it was dealt with appropriately. Anyway, sorry! Congratulations on the win and best of luck Friday night.

To everyone saying "his emotions got the best of him" is not acceptable. If you cant play the game and keep your emotions under control then don't play or get off the roids. There are THOUSANDS of student-athletes at ALL levels of football/basketball/hockey/etc. and they seem to play their games with dignity and respect for themselves, their team and their opponents.

In my opinion, this is nothing more than being undisciplined and Im glad to hear that some of the coaches were riding him about it. Throwing that pylon on the field after the game and flipping off the crowd is not "letting your emotions get to you." It's just being a straight-up douche.

As for the rest of the Appy St. fans/players... you guys were awesome and that game was one of the best played games I've seen in a long time. Everyone on here has wanted this matchup since Armante has been QB and Im so glad we finally got the chance.

Agree....his emotions getting the best of him may be a reason, but is no excuse....win with dignity, lose with even more dignity...

That ( # 54) was Jabari Fletcher one of App's defensive ends. I guess he was more than a little frustrated at being unable to put decent pressure on Montana QB.

Another thing that might have set him off was getting layed out on a punt.

Watch the game and at approximately 10:40 of the second quarter, App punts the ball. Watch the upper right section of the picture. You can see Jabari watching the ball roll to a stop when Griz player #44 comes flying from the right side to just knock Jabari on his azz. They were a good 35 yards from the ball.

I suppose the old saying applies here about keeping your head on a swivel until the end of the play, but you could see #44 gunning for Jabari.

Thompson was not taunting the player he layed out he was celibrating with his teammates a hit that turned out to be the hit of the game
Watch it again, he was taunting him.

He did jump up and talk some trash to the guy after the hit, and I wasn't thrilled about it...but if you watch the replay, you'll notice that he stopped when he realized the guy wasn't getting back up.

It's an emotional game, and guys are going to get excited after a big hit like that. I think you have to give them a bit of leeway on stuff like that.

Agree...I saw no taunting, only celebration for a big hit, but subdued once Cline didn't pop right back up.....it's football....the whole purpose is to knock someone on their ass in that manner every play....

On the big hit by KT I was happy to see him keep his face mask up instead of spearing with his helment. At first I wasn't sure and it was sure close but his face mask made contact before any other part of his helment which is legal. After watching a special about Texas high school athletes paralyzed in football games it became amply clear that the majority were caused by "helmet first" hits (with the others being sheer bad luck). Well anyway both tackler and tackled came out fine so all ends well.

I was wondering about that as well. Thought there was a rule this year that you couldn't lead with your head? Is that just in NFL? Personally, I think the hit was pure football, but was shcked that Thompson didn't get slapped with a penalty....anybody know the rule on that? :?:

Actually helmet to helmet contact is illegal. You can lead with your head but it is a really bad thing to do due to the risk of spinal compression. If you keep your head up and lead with your face mask the the neck can flex which will relieve most of the pressure (still hurts though).

Seriously??? And that's the crap that is killing sportsmanship and character for today's youth. Taught to never help up another team's player???? That's ridiculous. No offense to you personally, but if that's what you're taught then I guess it should be expected. You will see MANY Griz players offering help all the time to the other team. Hell, I went to Carroll College and would see a linebacker drill a QB and help him up.

It just pisses me off that you don't see that crap as much anymore. Instead we get to watch the next Chad Johnsons and Terrell Owens' do their stupid victory dance for making a routine tackle. Where's the sportsmanship? Where's the character?? What happened to teaching kids that it's okay to lay the guy out and then help him up???

Seriously??? Are you that naive? I will agree with you that helping up the other player is the right thing to do. Not everybody believes that. I am fine with that too.

Why do you think bad sportsmanship is a new thing? Do the Oakland Raiders of the past ring a bell. How many times did they help the opposing player up in the 1980's? Help them lose an eye or break a finger was more like it. How about Bill Romanowski? Do you think that he helped other players up? TO is an ass, but what he has done is nothing new. Don't kid yourself about that.

Not helping the other player up is not bad sportsmanship. Nor is refusing the help. Bad sportsmanship is dirty play and not shaking the other team's players' hands after the game. Flipping off the crowd and throwing a pilon would also count.

Glass houses...
