Georgia Southern has been pretty impressive so far, giving NC State and Georgia Tech close games (both 4-0). In both of those games it looks like the other team scored with under 2 mins to go to take the lead and get the win. Not bad so far for their first year with a full FBS schedule giving 2 ACC teams heart attacks.

With them finishing off App here (34-14 with about 7 mins to go) they'll be 3-2 with 3 very winnable games up next (New Mexico State, Idaho and Georgia State). Could be 6-2 going into the tough part of their conference schedule.

When Appy State was here in Missoula for the last time, we met with several of their staunch fans who were all SICK about moving up. But, as expected, they said "Y'all don't understand. It's all about money. Just money. All of these private schools in our conference want better exposure." They universally confessed they will miss the opportunity to play home and away contests with our football program.

Mostly what I heard from their fans was GA Southern going FBS made their decision for them, and GA Southern had to go because GA State went.

I'm less than two hours away from Southern and plan on going to a game this season. It seems like they're going to "fit" in the Sun Belt just fine this season and can easily dominate the conference. They're easily a bowl team if it wasn't for the transition. I really think App is going to struggle for the next few years especially with the program turned upside down after Moore left. I don't see their current HC being the answer for the future. Hell, they got beat by Southern Miss, which has been one of the absolute worst FBS programs the past few seasons. Georgia Southern will do just fine in the FBS. App on the other hand, it will be a struggle to be relevant at all. Just my opinion.
