Anyone want tickets for tonights Game??

You missed a hell of a game. Idaho State's fans did themselves proud. Made noise from start to finish and didn't let up, unlike the Griz fans the night before who didn't seem to realize the lady griz were getting their asses handed to them until there were five minutes left in the game.

The big difference between the two games seemed to be the center. Douma played 40, got beat several times but held her own in the end. The lady Griz pulled Gale and Gardipe early in the second half, went with 5 shooters and got burned inside. Lohman played center by default and it cost them just enough points to lose the game.
Gardipe was having a tough night. She wound up on the floor three times and gernerally struggled her way into three fouls before Rob sat her down. Gale stayed upright, but you have to weigh how much she was contributing as a defender against how much she was contributing as a shooter and they needed shooters. Montana seemed to go with the philosphy that four shooters scoring the in the 30 percentile was better than three doing the same thing and that NAU was really not being defended badly. Most nights, the Lady Griz would have won with that defense if they managed to shoot in the 40 percentile.

I didn't hear many pearls of wisdom coming from Laurie Kelly Saturday night and I sat four rows behind her. She plays a real phychological game with her women, "Their just like Montana. They're slow, They're tired. They're sloppy. You're the better athletes........" She was saying that stuff even as the game got away from her team and her kids seemed to buy into that.

Kelly also works the refs really really hard and I'm not talking about how she got them to stop the game for two minutes Friday night so she could persuade them to assign a foul to a different player who wasn't in foul trouble.

She just chatters, chatters chatters. Not much screaming, but a lot of requests and pointing out calls she felt the officials missed. At one point, she chatted up two different refs and got two different results. The female ref very curtly said "I didn't see that" and moved on. The bald male ref smiled, gave Kelly two thumbs up and said "I'll get it next time." I never want to see a ref give a coach the thumbs up again.

She sure isn't a strategist. With about 2 minutes left and trailing by 6?, NAU decides it needs to foul and hope ISU misses some free-throws. The problem is NAU only had 2 fouls in the half. She stupidly leaves her stars out there to foul out. Then when they finally get to 6 team fouls, they let ISU milk the clock down and shoot with 2 seconds left on the shot-clock and let ISU get their own offensive rebound. THEN foul. They completely wasted 30 seconds. Stupid!

It went:

instant Foul Sade Cunningham, 2nd personal
another instant Foul Cunningham, #3

Maybe take Cunningham out here so she doesn't foul out? Nope.

Foul Cunningham, #4..still no sub for Cunningham even though NAU needs to foul immediately again. Coach probably tells team to have someone else foul. genius.

Foul #42,her 3rd

Now that they are up to 6 fouls, it finally sets-up the one and one situation that NAU wants. So what does NAU do? They decide NOT to foul! huh???? Good logic there.

ISU milks the clock down to 1 minute, gets the offensive rebound and

Foul #42 #4.

ISU makes a free throw or 2. NAU chucks a quick 3. Brick. Foul Cunningham, #5

game over.

When you know that all you are gonna do is insta-foul, take out your stars with foul trouble and quit telling them that because they are better athletes, they will win somehow despite your complete lack of knowledge about strategy.

She's all talk, no substance. She loses almost everything from this squad (that she didn't recruit), which includes their all-time leading scorer. See how many wins her speeches gets them next year with no talent.

Did you notice toward the end of the game when NAU's No. 4 wrapped up ISU's point guard to get the foul, the bald ref whistled it as a straight up foul. -- The same ref blew the Griz for an intentional foul for the same move the night before, which meant NAU not only got the shots, they got the ball back, too. -- that guy sucks.

Yeah...I noticed it for sure, and even commented about it at the same time.
