Any updates?

Concerning both the men and women, I got nothing. The one thing I can tell is that both coaches are going to hold any commitment until they finish their recruiting. This goes for Huse at Montana State also.

montana is appearently recruiting a guard out of Laramie, Wyoming named Daniel Estes. He will be a senior in the fall but he missed most of last year when he had a skiing accident and damaged his wrist. Other schools, including Wyo, are in contact, sending letters, etc while montana coaches are calling him. Scuttlebutt is he held up well when he scrimmaged with the WYO team last fall before his injury. wyo is guard heavy on the roster right now and the bigger schools are waiting to see how he comes back from the injury. Might be a steal for Montana if they can seal the deal early.

he's the starting guard on the top Colorado Chaos AAU team. Last year he played on the top Junior Colorado AAU squad.

Spring Signing period ends this Wednesday (April 20th). Players who sign can be anounced after that date, but must sign their LOI by that date. Players can sign after that date, but not an NCAA offical LOI.

the lady griz will not sign additional players this spring, instead saving scholarships for next year's bumper crop of montana talent.

Like I said in my Blog, I am a little bit surprised by that. The will have three seniors, so that will open 3 scholarships, but to hold two more open for a total of five, not to mention the 1 scholarship that every team seems to lose every year. That will give them 5-6 scholarships. Do they really need to hold back that many.

So who is the emergency back up point if Johnson and or Ferda goes down for a game or longer. I guess I am not that familiar with the Lady Griz ball handlers.

Of the Big three Montana recruits Selvig, Sullivan, and Hill, I hear most people feel that Selvig, for obvious reasons is close to a lock. Hill From Anaconda is a heavy lean but by no means a sure thing lock I think she would definitely be interested if a Mid -major showed interest.. Sullivan though I hear may want to go out of State, different environment, and see what she can do at a higher level.

But then again, who am I to question a 30 year, 700 win veteran

i'm as surprised as you are, mslacat, especially since there was a rumor on this board that they were prepared to sign a "big time" point guard. but recruiting years are like wine vintages, and maybe they feel there are better recruits out there next year, not only in montana but nationally.

I believe this Wednesday is May 20th, not April 20th. Otherwise this signing date stuff would be old news by now.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised that the LG start, or play quite a bit, Lauren Beck at PG. She played that position for a while at Great Falls High.

I also hear Lexi Nelson is a pretty good player, from Butte I believe; doesn't WBB at the NCAA Div. I Level allow for fifteen scholarships? I think the LG have four more to give, they have 14 now even with the proposed walk-on from Kalispell - three seniors = 4 more players to sign if not mistaken. Starting next year with four from the hs ranks that are seniors in hs next year; since the LG hardly if ever bring in a transfer and/or JC player. I'd think the LG would be going for Hill, Carly Selvig, Sullivan & Nelson IMHO. At least for in-state recruits. Perhaps they can get better from out of state. Definitely need a post/power forward type along with another point guard; at least I would hanker a guess at least. Wish them luck.

Lady Griz have two remaining scholarships for this year. If what is stated is true that they are saving these two until next year, Lady Griz will have 5 scholarships to give out next year. Don't assume the walk-on from Kalispell will get one of those.

they may sign 5 other players next year to have a roster of 15 scholarshipped players plus the kalispell walk-on for a roster size of 16 (unless someone else walks on then maybe a larger roster).

As for who is the emergency back up point if Johnson and or Ferda goes down, Selvig has a bunch of players that can play point. Tiana Ware played point a little. Beck has played point a little. Misty Atkinson even brought the ball down the court a time or two. Stephanie Stender also. Not the most confidence building scenarios a person can imagine against an athletic opponent that employs a trapping press, though.

With Ferda already down with an ACL, she really won't be 100% for some of next year physically, then once she recovers 100% physically, then it will be recovering to 100% mentally. that may not be until her sophomore season. It took Skyla Cisco a year or more recover from her ACL both physically and mentally. Really never got back to her old self until her senior year after the ACL during her sophomore season. Ferda's knee injury happened later in the season then Skyla's also. Just hope she recovers faster, both physically and mentally.
