Any Rumors of Signees for Next Week

I like this guy. Did a little research...and a certain very knowledgeable poster on here posted that both MSU and the Griz were interested in this guy when he was in HS a couple years ago. Also the #7 ranked D1 prospect in the district per a JUCO site. He likes to play up tempo and with Kareem and Cherry...these Griz could be decent next year! :o

Welcome to GRIZ NATION, Spencer, and family.

With this signing, looks very likely our FR F will be redshirting. Looks like Spencer, Henderson, and Weisner will be our main SF.

As for Spencer, sounds like he can score, and do a little of everything. Sounds like a great get, with a lot of upside.

By the way, the staff did a hell of a job, keeping this signing under wraps. I seen on rivals, or scout, he signed the LOI on April 11 or 12.

GIven his size and versatility, I suspect Tinks envisions a role for Spencer, siimilar to the one Art played....(i.e. some power forward too)

That's my hope. Imagine Art but three inches taller. Then again, he likely wouldn't have been at UM if that were the case!

this roster is setting up nicely. strong core of returning starters--jamar, cherry, ward--plus a young group that should make contributions after some playing time last year--gregory, deshields, henderson, weisner and reader (if eligible)--plus the two newcomers. we're even set up for a possible miracle: a few solid minutes each game from hutchison. and we can redshirt the freshmen. life is good!

critics will complain that we have no montana kids on scholarship. but if the best montana kids are going to foresake us for stanford and utah state, so be it. montana is a national state of mind anyway. just one piece missing: an enforcer, that 6'7" dan moore. always nice to have one of them around.

next is to address our biggest loss: bill evans.

I too love how this team looks, but I must say I am and will be one of those critics. I am a big fan and supporter of Tinkle but his seeming lack of interest in MT kids is my one complaint and it is really starting to chap me. I understand we have not produced a Cherry or Jamar type stud but for every one of them this team has had three career role players. You can't tell me that the state has not produced a single kid that could at least be a Stockton-Wood-Hutchison-Weisner style role player.
Correct me if I am wrong but I think the only scholarship Tinkle has given to a kid from MT has been to Selvig and he was a 7 foot tall legacy, he had to give one to him. It's BS.

OK, rant over....and I agree about Evans. Those might be some tough shoes to fill.

who would you have wanted tinkle to sign? names please.

I'm not "chapped" with lack of MT kids on Griz...maybe more upset that so few MT kids seem ready for D1 basketball. Watched alot of AA the past few years and really haven't seen too many other than Huestis and his choice of Stanford seems a good one. Bradshaw would have been offered and chose Utah State.

West's Robison is headed to MSU and feel he could have filled a "Ward" type role. Not as a good an outside player but I think a little better rebounder and defender. He visited here, may have had offer, but chose MSU. I think he will play there and contribute but won't stand out.

Edwards kid from Kalispell may appear a project but at 6'11" he's got to get some looks. Pretty good feet and skills. Not that physical but also think he's growing into himself and will someday be a guy that can play.

Appears we've gotten guys that could fill our most immediate needs next year.

Andy Garland, Geoff Hogan, Quinn Smith, Danny Robison, Kurt Parsons, Rilet King, Adam Gregor.

A few off of the top of my head, I am sure with some thought I could come up with a few more. The first two are the best two and likely would have been good players for us. The next two were offered walk-on spots so the coaches must have seen some potential there. Parsons and King are kids that given the chance may have turned into solid bench guys. Gregor I thought ended up where he should of at the NAIA level, but judging how he looked when he played against us this year as a true freshman he may have been another one that could have turned into something.
Is there a Cherry or Jamar there? No. Is there a Wood or Weisner or Hutchison there? With out a doubt. Now, by no means am I trying to knock our bench guys, I like them all and have been a strong defender of them. They all serve an important roll. I just think you can find those types of guys in-state.
In Tinkle's defense in-state recruiting can be hard. Unless the kid comes to your camp it is going to be hard to watch him play in HS because the seasons run at the same time. I made the case a few months ago in a different thread that AAU and summer recruiting has really hurt in-state guys because it is hard for them to get that exposure that AAU provides. HS basketball in this state is not as bad as people want to think, the three kids that left the state for AAU ball (Osweiler, Huestis and Bradshaw) all got multiple offers from D1 schools.

If Smith and Gregor could both play for the Griz, Florence should have been able to win a state title. And here I thought Baerlocher was a pretty good coach!!

See what I mean. We wanted Smith and Gregor went for like 10 and 4 against us, just imagine how good the kids who beat them must be! :D
