I didn't justify Cherry's actions of telling the officer to FO. In fact, I said exactly the opposite. It looks like you can't refute what I've said or argued, so you have to make up something I didn't say, and try to argue against that. That's a telltale sign of someone who isn't very smart. It's done fairly often on this message board.

Everyone knows your intent and can read through your thinly veiled arguments and rationalizations. So I'm not even going to requote what you've just said in this post and on the basketball forum.

I'm not smart? Do you even know me, my educational background, or anything about me? Why do you have to constantly make up lies? :coffee:

I can tell by the arguments you make and your apparent lack of reading comprehension that you aren't smart. It's not hard to judge your poor reasoning, arguments and writing.

Just think... if that white, stoned 34-yr old would've yelled "Hey! Person of color!" Cherry would've simply walked away and this thread might not even exist.

In other words, you're prejudiced.

People of color is actually the preferred term, or one of them, now. Shows how far out of it you are. Maybe ignorant is a better description of where you are.

From Wikipedia:

"Person of color (plural: people of color; persons of color) is a term used primarily in the United States to describe any person who is not white. The term is meant to be inclusive among non-white groups, emphasizing common experiences of racism. People of color was introduced as a preferable replacement to both non-white and minority, which are also inclusive, because it frames the subject positively; non-white defines people in terms of what they are not (white), and minority frequently carries a subordinate connotation.[1] Style guides for writing from American Heritage,[2] the Stanford Graduate School of Business,[3] Mount Holyoke College,[4] recommend the term over these alternatives. It may also be used with other collective categories of people such as students of color, men of color and women of color."

I beg and plead you to go up to all of the people of color that you claim to know and ask them how they feel about being called a "person of color". Get back to me with the results. This ought to be good.

I am a person of color. I know how the term is used and perceived in the past decade or so. Can you not even read the Wiki quote I provided? Here, I will summarize for you:

"People of color was introduced as a preferable replacement to both non-white and minority...."

"Style guides for writing from American Heritage, the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Mount Holyoke College, RECOMMEND THE TERM over these alternatives."

Player, anything about your errors on the JW case? Or are you going to ignore that one too?

I already told you, above, that I didn't make any errors on the JW case. I actually never said much about the case. I also pointed out, above, that you're the one who made a huge error on the JW case, by saying he was convicted of violating state law. There was no state law involved in the case; only federal law and criminal statutes, in a federal court, with a sentence by a federal judge to federal prison.

I really don't like how quickly people throw out the race card or just make the assumption that the other person in the fight had to of been racist. None of you know that. Regardless, when a cop tells you to do something as simple as sitting down and shutting up, you do it. When I was in college in Missoula, I was in a similar situation. I was breaking up a fight and a cop rushed in, pointed a taser at me, and told me to sit on the ground and shut up. That's what I did and I was let go when the situation was dissolved. Nobody was arrested or tased because we listened (and because we knew the cops had a reputation of being taser happy...). You can't let your emotions get away from you in those situations.

Cherry seems to be a good person as does DeShields and I'd be surprised if charges weren't dropped, but you can't say this wasn't their fault at all. Nothing wrong with defending yourself, but when a cop tells you to stop and shut up, you do it if you don't want to be in the police blotter.

So if a white guy calls a black guy the N word, would that make the white guy a racist? I would say either yes or the white guy is just plain f'n stupid. But in this situation the N word was used so I would say race played a part in this fight.
Just calling somebody a name isn't racist and you are incredible pussy if you think it does. Racism IMO involves personal harm because of race.....you know like those black guys that beat Reginold Denny because he was white

i asked the person of color in my house how she felt about the term 'person of color'. she indicated that it was pretty offensive.

You are not a person of color.

You are white but you want people to believe you are not for some reason. Probably because you hate whites.

Well I'm happy that is your opinion and not the opinion of the majority. And the guy tried to cause Cherry personal harm since he "jumped" him.

As did two of my coworkers. I replied by telling them it was "ok" because Wikipedia and PlayerRep said so. I'm still waiting for that one person of color attorney to go ask a certain basketball playing person of color what he thinks about it. Gawd, this is wrong on so many levels. :?

You gotta just love the way this man lifts quotes don't you?

How about this one from the same article:

" Because the term people of color includes vastly different people with only the common distinction of not being white, it draws attention to the fundamental role of racialization in the United States. It acts as "a recognition that certain people are racialized" and serves to emphasize "the importance of coalition" by "making connections between the ways different 'people of color' are racialized.

In short it is the perfect term for racists.... so according to the PR man of color, There is white and there is everyone else. All this time I just thought it was him and everybody else......

And with that, I think I have an answer to the University of North Dakota mascot dilemma. They should just call themselves the UND Fighting People of Color. Get on board with that will ya PR? Make it happen!
