Another reason why we don't cheer for the cats

Cat fans telling us we should root for the Cats..

Don't remember any cat fan ever rooting for us in the playoffs when they were done by week 5.

But there were plenty of griz fans telling us we should, and that if the roles were reversed that pretty much all griz fans would root for msu......

While I think there was some of that, I'm pretty sure most of the outspoken Cat haters on this site were also saying they'd never support you in those threads, too...

I'm actually surprised how many eGriz fans have said they'd support the cats. I thought everyone would be all FU.

It's a rivalry. I don't root for the Cats because I have ill will toward Rob Ash, DM, Cody Kirk, my bride, and various and sundry other family members that sport the Blue and Gold (or Yellow - make up your mind MSU).

I root against the Cats because they are the rival of the Griz. It's just that simple.

To me that is what a rivalry is. It's more symbolic than personal. It's tribal, not relational.

Bingo!
I totally get that. And I appreciate the historic, traditional beauty of a good rivalry and the tribal nature of it. We are simply living in the one moment that is an exception for me: only one Montana team is playing in the post season. By default, all fans from Montana are supposed to support them. Not during regular season (ever), not if we are both in the play-offs. But now. Just now.

Says who?? Is that something Governor BS said the last time he was whoring for the camera at the scat-Griz game? I get so tired of people saying crap like that. I'm gonna root for whomever I please and if you don't like it, tough sh*t.
I don't care if they make it to the NC game, I wil never root for little brother.
FTC all day everyday!

Thanks Hammer for reminding me of this. In the Bozeman newspaper during our Championship game against Nova.

Funny....I just followed this conversation from 1 social media page to the next.

I remember that sign....wrote about it, I think. Still, I can't bring myself to stoop to that level. Cheering on the Montanans.

Texans are Texans whether they are wearing blue and gold or orange. I wonder who Bobby Hauck is rooting for?

Hey, dumbass, didn't you know that Montana State has more Montana boys on its roster than "Montana"?

My experience at a Griz cat game in Bozo many years back is the reason I will never root for MSEuless. Before that I used to cheer for them except against the Griz. Image means a lot and the image I got of bobcat athletics that day was not good.

You all need to grow a set and enjoy the game for what it is! All this talk about "I'd never root for the Cats because they are the team from the other side of the state is middle school talk, at best.

Sure it's fun to enjoy the banter of the rivalry, I enjoy it as much as anybody, but claiming "TRIBAL" allegiance and yoking your identity(s) (in some cases multiple) to a football team is such a small world. There's more out there. Get out, live and take off the hater glasses and enjoy the "other team" who happens to be winning on the national stage!

Ya'll come, seats are still available, it's fun!!!

Cat fans enjoy having your support! :thumb:

When the Griz played Villanova the place where I worked at the time had a lot of MSU grads working there. Not one said they wanted the Griz to win. They were hoping for a Villanova ass-kicking so the hater glasses are on on both sides....

Personally, I had absolutely no problem with the ad in the paper. Frankly, I thought it was hilarious. Still hate the cats and always will. Would never cheer for them. If they played the university of iran tomorrow, I'd be at the game wearing a turban and sandals.

Exactly. There is a big difference between legitimate hate of a rival and disrespect. I have for YEARS respected what has been built at Montana. But I hated it. I cheered against Montana in every single game they played and I expect the same thing from true Griz fans. But that doesn't mean I disrespect what their program is. No one can argue with the championships, the playoff success, stadium, etc. It is very respectable.

Hammer and BlgsGriz don't respect MSU. That's fine. But that makes you lower than the lowest Bobcat fans you so fervently hate. Bury your heads in the sand and claim that MSU isn't good this year. That's fine. But you finished 5-6. The Cats are 11-1 and on the march forward. If you can't respect that, then you are one of the worst football fans to have ever graced this earth.

LMFAO!

Great post!

To be a "true" Griz fan means you have to detest everything blue & gold?
To be a "true" Cat fan means you have to detest everything burgandy & silver?

I don't think so.

Quotes from Joe Domanski the owner of Specs.

"It was classless and in poor taste"

"It came off the wrong way," he said. "I'm not the sharpest pencil in the box."

"I hope the Griz do well tonight"

This statement implies that all Bobcat fans respect the Griz and I am going to go out on a limb and say "I doubt it".

Love or hate your rival -- in the world outside of the make believe of collegiate athletics, rivalries mean nothing. If disaster struck, anyone would help a child wearing a sweatshirt depicting their rivals without hesitation. Play it up, have fun with it but don't lose perspective or you really are on the level of the worst Bobcat fans. Losing for so many years has left too many of them wretched and bitter. If nothing else "the changing of the guard"   should alleviate that a bit.

Regardless of where your loyalties are consider the spud state where you never hear of anybody
hating Idaho State - because their athletic program is too freakin' pathetic to generate much more than contempt, if it's noticed at all. (In Boise there's disdain for both ISU and UI) With MSU it seems like the hate meter has risen proportionately to their ability to actually become a challenger to UM supremacy in the state...the country cousins have actually earned the right to be "hated."... Congrats

See, there you go again being a total D-bag. The Griz have laughed at and ridiculed the Cats for a solid 2 decades before they became relevant. They weren't respectable. But attitudes like this is why the Hate-meter rises so quickly. I'm sure it is reciprocal, as well. To claim a Griz fan doesn't care about what's going in Bozeman, good or bad, is ridiculous. They damn well care about it, and I know Bobcat success makes many a d-bag Griz fan enraged, much like Silvertip.

Everyone always hates the best team. The Griz have held that role for almost 20 years. I am sorry to inform you that it is over. Congrats.
