ANOTHER PATHETIC TELECAST

How taxing to have to listen to the inept Buck -- such as, "Bobby Howard comes into the game for the Griz" at about 12:54 left in the second half -- and the even-more-inept Amanda whomever.

The female commentator was silent for long stretches, and after we heard her utterances, we welcomed the silence. The stuttering and sputtering and the "uh" and "um" time-fillers while she tries to think of something to say were too painful. She was awful, awful, awful. She, Buck and Bobble Hermes should be sentenced to an eight-hour day of just listening to the audio of their work over and over and over.

And Buck's unending riding of the "they re-set the offense" was beyond the ken, as well. All of those things are not resetting the offenses -- many of them are passes for continuation.

Ugh, ugh, ugh.

The only thing that made it worth while: Lady Griz and the men beat the kitties. In another month or so we are subjected to that crappy commentary again.

Ya know...a pathetic play by play is somewhat bearable. You can put up with Musberger, Tirico, (and even Phil) and the rest of the blah-blah a++kisssers, but how can a basketball game of this magnitude in MT not have a somewhat knowledgable color commentator. Gimme a break..CAT / GRIZ televised in MT and we get Amanda Maynard?????? WTF!!!!!
I can't believe that the time, effort and money to give this game to all of the CAT / GRIZ faithful, and we ge a third rate, bull---t telecast with absulutely no professionalism to speak of. Anybody who defends this BS has got to have their head examined. The bright spot is that Maynard only chimed in about 4-5 times throughout the broadcast (are you kidding me????). I'm embarrassed for who ever (or whomever) brought this to TV....I should have just listened to the radio!!!! What a f---ing joke!!!!!!!!!
There has got to be 10-20 qualified, knowledgable experts that could bail Phil out and make this a decent experience for those of us who were unable to make it to Mizzou for the game.
Am I overdoing it here?? Did anyone else think it was a complete joke? I felt like I was watching the loser out game at the local Class B district tourney.

Well, this is Montana. Were you expecting Dick Vitale or Billy Packer?

These guys (and gal  ) get to do a few games a year. I've done radio, it's not as easy as one might think.

Getting back to my "anybody who would defend this has got to have their head examined" qualifier...you flunked...retard. Has nothing to do with MT!!!! Has everything to do with MONTANA!!!!
I've done radio in MT at the Frontier level...and would like to have thunked that I had anything to offer to the broadcast compared to Phil's walking stiff (Amanda Maynard). I get her for sports wrap 6-7 days a week..and trust me... she doesn't get it. It's not a guy / gal thing...it's a "she doesn't know s---t abouit s---t thing. And the kicker is...she gets the only worth-while basketball game telecast in the state. THAT IS MY POINT!!!! WTF????? Is this game not worth anything to the MT viewing public? Doesn't make sense...like you.

Amanda Maynard or whatever her name is is the head sports person for the Bozeman station, so I think she was there to represent an MSU viewpoint and to give the telecast a less biased commentary for the few Bobcat fans out there....can't really blame the commentary all on her, though, what would you have said after the way MSU played in both games? (similar to the Brawl of the Wild when Grady did most of the color and the guy from MSU only piped in a couple of times)

IF it means the GRIZ winning when the commentating is lousy. I will gladly take it! Please get off this thread and comment on the game itself.

The commentary in the Lady Griz game was unbearable. Phil Buck "And the Lady Griz retake a 22-point lead, their largest lead of the night." It was the the only time the lead was so large to that point.

OK folks get off it. You were lucky enough to get pictiures, something you don't get most of the time. Is that not better than not seeing the game?
Mick.

Mick - You are spot on. This is probably the smallest market in the nation and we think we deserve ESPN quality? These young kids who do the announcing and the camera work all have to start somewhere - we just happen to be the starting point. These kids are doing their very best with the equipment they have because they are trying to move up. Give them a break and just hope that enough people watch that there will be the money to buy better equipment. But as far as "better" announcers, we have what we have - a starting point for the newbies. Give them credit for being willing to put their careers on the line and do something they have no training for - calling a college sporting event. Do any colleges in the country train anyone for that? I doubt it. Its on the job training and I think we are lucky to have what we do. Lighten up.

And as for you Mr. Mick, would you consider putting the postgame on the speaker system so we can listen in the Adams Center rather than sit in our cars stuck in the parking lot? Thanks!

So get in your car and drive to Missoula! There. Problem solved.

...and you, brainless sap that you are, will no doubt have that over-sized behind of yours parked on the couch, lapping up every bit of it.

Hmmmmm. Does anyone remember when the games weren't on TV at all, football or basketball, and you had to listen to them on the radio all the time? I prefer the TV we have now. If it is that bad, turn down the sound and do your own color commentary in your head.

It is usually a better day when you enjoy what you have, instead of pissing and moaning about what you think you should have.

Nothing like newcomer islander from rancho mirage to explain it to us. If you don't see/hear it, you don't know what we're talking about, so probably it's you that's the brainless sap.

Griz/Cat hoops have been on TV for a long, long time, and what we're getting now is about as bad as it's ever been. There are universities where you can learn to do sports, maybe not at UM, but Syracuse is a hot bed for wannabees who head for where ever there's an opportunity.

And by the way, Missoula is NOT the smallest TV market around -- far from it.

I don't know if Jean McNulty is still around, but when she did basketball color for Omega, it was good. Chris Beyers in Billings does a good job on TV, both play by play and commentary. So there have been/are Montanans who can do the job. But they weren't evident Saturday.

Still doesn't explain that oversized butt of yours and why it is parked in front of a telecast you abhor.

Helpful Note:

For those of you Whining about the quality of the GRIZ media covearge on the tube.....Move to Hollywood where you can sniff the coat-tails of the rich/famous and proffessional media talent..Pretty nice aa??....Thought you'd like it down there...

So now...How do you like the Proffessional media talent down in LA??.....That's what I thought..And don't you love those extra special super red So. Cal sunsets .....as so enhanced by the smog??....Yeah right....real beauty......

I'll take the local Tana media talent any day over the....Big Bang market any day...

Be thankful you EVEN get to watch any Girz game on TV ....Some fans just don't know how lucky they have it.....

BTW....It's a 30 min drive to Snowbowl........and a 6 hour drive from LA to Mammoth....

Islander, your fascination with fat asses must be a reflection of what you pack around -- and I don't happen to possess a fat one, or oversized, as you call it. Maybe the size of your ass matches the fat of your head.

And enough of the stuff about just being grateful for a lousy production because we've got pictures, so we should shuffle off to the back of the bus and be appreciative.

Fact of the matter is that KPAX pays big bucks for the rights to coaches' shows and to broadcast Cat/Griz stuff -- most of the money goes to the schools, with some to the conference -- and it's not unreasonable to expect something better than mediocre "talent" because it is available in Montana.

I challenge the mindset that because we're Montanans we should be settling for shabby -- we certainly don't settle for that in the performance of the football team. And don't say, "well, James Madison isn't on TV that much." Well, JMU is one of several schools in Virginia playing D1 football, and out here in the vast expanses, UM's the show, not one amongst many.

KPAX could do better, and they should. That doesn't mean it's ESPN -- there's a lot of room between ESPN and pathetic, it doesn't have to be one or the other.

Kaboom,
I hate to tell you this but apparently the sportscaster you're all complaining about is a USC graduate.
I guess you could say that the CBS affiliate is bringing Hollywood to us. We don't need to go to Hollywood.
